A newbie here!
Just wanted to say hello to everyone! Recently picked up a used 2000 Protege LX about 3 weeks ago, and just this past weekend completed a deal to trade in my 99 VW Passat for an 02 Protege ES. Absolutely love the Passat, but with two small kids, it is time to go a little more economical, especially in the maintenance area.
Picked up the used Protege as a 2nd car for the wife to use, drove it a little bit, loved the handling and tossability, but of course wanted more power as the 1.6l needs to be revved , but I guess that's what a 5-speed is for. Decided to try a new Protege ES, came away in total amazement, absolutely loved it! It doesn't have as much power as my V-6 Passat did, but it sure will out handle it, and the manual tranny is probably a little better.
My Passat was slightly modified, 16" wheels and tires, drop in K&N, H&R OE sport springs (1" drop f & r) Bilstein sport shocks, Power slot rotors with PBR metal master pads f & r. Like I said, great car, but it was getting to the point where it was going to cost some $$$ for upkeep. Posted on a similar forum at www.clubb5.com
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to learning about my new car, although I don't plan any mods right out of the box. The ES totally outhandled my Passat with it's mods, plus a better ride. I guess there is something to be said for lower weight.
Sorry for being so long winded!
