Newbie wants to change manuel transaxle lubricant
Hey, just got a 2000 protege ES last week and wanted to change the manuel transaxle oil to a synthetic. I got the Haynes Manuel on how to do it, but it really doesn't help me too much. It says remove the speedometer cable and remove the speedometer driven gear assembly. I have no idea where to even look for such a thing. There is a thing that looks like a plug above my oil filter, is this perhaps the drain? Anybody know ?

well congrats on the car, and no that plug is not the drain. that plug is the oil pressure sensor. the speedo cable is located kinda on top of your tranny, a bitch to get to. and the drain is on the bottom of your tranny if im not mistaken.

harmful Gl-5?
Ok, I figured out how to drain and fill the stuff, thanks! Now, I read on a post here that molybdenum disulfide is a bad thing to have in your gear lube because it can break down into stuff that is bad for yellow metal in our trannies. Now I've already ordered some Amsoil SAE 75W-90 good for GL-2 through GL-5, not the series 2000 kind they sell. I was wondering if anyone knows if this stuff is ok for the tranny, I haven't really heard anything bad about amsoil, but don't know too much about Moly myself or if it is even in the amsoil gear lube. Anyone happen to know something about this?
