Actually all the SHO models until the ill fated '96 model year had the Yamaha tuned 220hp 3.0L V6 under the hood. In fact the Super High Output moniker was named FOR the engine.
In 1996 the V6 was replaced by a small V8 that recieved the yamaha treatment... unfortuantely the taurus' redesign combined with "repositioning" of it's most expensive model resulted in a quick but boring boulevard cruiser.

umm....how techinical do you want to get?? In 92-95 the SHO was powered by a 3.2L V6 thanks to the addition of the slushbox automatic. The bigger displacement was used to try to overcome some of the auto's suckiness....it didn't work. In 96 the 3.2L was replaced by the 3.4L V8 with massive cam failure. Every 96+ SHO I 've seen has had the heads replaced due to those crappy cam gears.

Damn, almost forgot... back on the subject.
Got my car back today, not all the way fixed. Turns out I was right--the front wheel bearings were rusted! Turns out the hub was defective and water leaked in... not really hazardous just REALLY annoying (noise). They replaced 2 outer bearings but the inner bearing is [get this] on national backorder until 5/11/04.

mmm... that's interesting. I've only ever dealt with manual transmission models. My Grandfather has a '95 manual trans SHO, and I've never noticed a difference when working under the hood. What's sad is that the 92-95 models were slower than the 1st gen cars-- especially the speed demon '89! The shift quality got worse too... is it true that the linkage was designed by mazda or is that a rumor?
I had a '90 as well. Titanium gray... may she rest in pieces...
btw... never bothered with the 96+ snoozers...

the SHO owns all at the track....by "all" I mean all 4 door sedans, 10yrs old without superchargers. IT OWNS THEM! I'm going to look for another one in a year or so to just be a track-dog.

It's not...it's a side conversation...how is any of the conversation about water leaks on the G.A. realitive?

Don't pick a fight over something so unimportant.

I consider this a jab...you're basically saying my post is not important or constructive.

not unimportant... just off topic. it would be of more importance if it were in a thread talking about SHO's. whereas talking about the grand am and the leaking trunk was a reliability issue and same thing with the earlier posts about the SHO's... reliability issue. slightly off topic but still pertaining to the original post. i hate reading through threads and then all of a sudden people start talking about junk that has nothing to with the thread and i have to waste my time reading through stuff that i'm not interested in. maybe i misinterpreted your posts and i'm out of line here in which case i'll shut up and leave it at that.

It doesn't matter. The point is the topic was already de-railed and no further constructive information was being presented. Someone mentioned a car I once owned and I felt the need to chat with them about it.

It was certainly not an offense worthy of a snotty retort.

We can proceed one of two ways....we can either keep the thread open and continue to just chat bouot stuff, or we can shut the thread down and move on to something else....It doesn't matter to me either way. What do you guys want to do?
