new to the club... but not to Proteges.

my first was a '93 LX which, when i got it in 1998, already had 115,000 miles on 'er. yet, with a little lovin' care, she served us faithfully until she reached 165,000 miles and the years and miles of neglect piled upon her before i got her caught up to us. but "Scooter" as she was affectionately called, proved so reliable and fun to drive that we decided to get another Mazda... an MPV. recently, because of the need for an inexpnesive second car we bought yet another Mazda... an '02 Lazer Blue Protege 5.

now for a question: our '02 Protege 5 has the 6 speaker system AND 4 speed Sport AT. i thought these options were only available on the 2003 Protege 5. the VIN # classifies it as an '02. what gives? not that i'm complaining but how did '03 options end up on an '02 model?

that being said, l recently moved to an area with lots of curvy, twisty two lane roads...
this is gonna be a whole lotta fun!!

the 2002.5 had those options as a midyear refresh so to speak.

Yea '02.5 and '03 have the same options. If you have drop in cupholders vs. flip-up, tweeters in front doors, different style of rims, red on red gauges, manumatic transmission (if auto), and a roofrack then our P5s are the same, and mine is '03. Which would then have to make yours '02.5 for sure ...
