OE Stereo/CD problem and dealer service
The factory CD player in my 02 P5 jammed a couple of weeks ago. I took it to the closest dealer, Ron Tonkin Mazda. They ordered another unit under warranty. After no word, I called and they said it had just come in, so I made a 2nd appt. to get it replaced. When I went to pick it up I noticed two big greasy footprints on the floormat. I asked them to clean it up and they did. When I got home, I noticed two scratch marks in the center dash panel where I assume they pryed it back to get at the radio. The scratches fit two flathead screwdriver marks perfectly.
A couple of days ago, the CD player quite working again! This time, you could pop the cd in and out, but it would just spin. So, I've made a 3rd appt. with them to diagnose the problem once again and I'll have to make a 4th appt. with them after they order another unit. I called the service manager who said they will fix the scratches and if necessary give me a loaner car to overnight the part.
What's annoying is I've twice had them change the oil on my Miata, and both times they didn't clean up oil that spilled below the oil filter. Both times I've gotten oil on my garage floor. The second time I specifically asked them to wipe up any excess oil and they didn't.
So, besides two bad cd players, am I just having bad luck with the OE radio/cd? Has anybody else had problems?

No... but I'd be screamin at Mazda's customer service number, and then seeking another dealer to do business with. I am huge on customer service and unprofessionalism by anybody I just don't tolerate. If not the service manager, I'd be talkin to the general manager of the dealership about your unsatisfactory service. But that's my perspective.

Oh, and as for your other question, I would think that they didn't swap out the cd player, its highly unlikely that a new unit would have the same problem. I never had any problems with mine, however I did replace it 6 months after I bought it.
