Wow, great posts! I feel better knowing I am not the only person doing longer change intervals!

 

European Proteges (like other Mazdas too) have 15.000km / one year oil change interval.

 

As a newbie I have a dumb question. Does a new P5 come with synthetic oil in it? If not do you need to wait a certin amount of time going to synthetic? This question basically comes from past motorcycle expereince. On my last new bike it was recommended to wait until 2000 miles until switching to synthetic. Thanks..

Recommended by who? The manual? The Salesperson? The mechanic?

If it's in the manual, I'd believe it - otherwise, it's just someone giving you their opinion - and there aren't any facts to back such claims up. Plenty of people "claim" that putting synthetic in too early can do this or that to the engine - but where are the facts?

And the P5 comes with dino oil.
