Only 3 days

I've had my baby only 3 days, and this morning on the freeway, I get a nasty ding in the windshield from a flying rock.

Would anyone here recommend a windshield repair? I've had them done years ago when the technolgy was new, but they always caused the crack to run about a month after the repair. Are they still like that?

Also, could anyone recommend a glass shop in the Vancouver, BC area? All the ones I've been to in the best have been mediocre, either in service, workmanship or both!

when you have your windshield replaced....insist on them using OEM glass....it makes a difference.

lol, they side swiped you, then tried to run? aint that some ****. my windshield looks like hell after this winter. chips galore, and there's crack in the lower right corner that started from a chip and cracked because of our dumb *** weather. 80 degrees one day, got the chip, snowed the next, cracked.

How big is the crack? If you can completely cover it up w/ a quarter, it shouldn't be too hard to repair it.

You mean structurally? I've always used the opportunity of a replacement windshield to get a shade tint in the past, the brands are usually major glass manufacturers like Carlite, PPG or Viracon.

Unfortunately, twice the size of a quarter!

Guy at my ISP had his all of 60 hours. Took it on a road trip to Kentucky and apparently got hit by a dump truck that ran a light. Don't think it was totalled, but close to it.

Why would you say that?

From my (limited) experience with my P5, I can't imagine the glass being any worse. I don't know if I just have bad luck or what, but it is all scratched to hell, and I fully expect it to be totally 'sandblasted' after another one of our winters.

If <when!> I replace my windshield I will probably opt for aftermarket glass, unless someone can give me a compelling reason to stick with OEM glass.

Scratches in glass can be polished.

Have you had success with this? The two glass shops I talked to in town told me that it was a no go ;(

So it is ~250$cnd for an installed winshield, I didn't think it was that bad...this may be what I ultimately do. Depending on what the glass looks like next spring.

The windshield in my Pro is scratched to Hell! A lot of the scratches seem to be from my window scraper that we Canadians have to use 8 months of the year, which makes me really mad!

I've been trying to find an auto glass polish, but haven't had any luck yet. I hear autoglym is supposed to work well, but I'm not sure if it can fix the scratches that I have. Oh well...at least the rocks haven't been smashing my passengers and I in the face.

I saw them do it on TV (dream car garage) with a special polish and I had it done at a car detailing place my friend works at. Made 13 year old glass look like the glass on my neighbours brand new BMW. Only the front came out well because you can polish glass that has no tint on it.

I know the feeling. Mine got hit 3 days after I bought it. Cop gaurd directing traffic. She wave me on and girl didnt stop at the intersection and slammed my front end. Then she tried telling her insurance company it wasnt her fault. Like the cop wasnt there or something
