Put your stock intake back on, tow the car down to the dealer, and then see what they say.

I was talking to a friend about this today at work. He had a close call with his CAI over the weekend but he had a good point. If you can get rid of all the traces of water in the engine they might just think you bent a rod and go ahead and fix it under warranty. I would pretend to be ignorant and not even mention the water. We couldn't think of a way they could tell without physically finding some water in the engine.

k, so heres what all happen

Im sitting at home, its pouring outside, my power goes out at home, so im like man, **** this, im going to best buy, on my way over Im driving down the street, the rain didnt seem too bad, but if forgot that this street usually gets kinda high in water when it pours

so i notice the water getting kinda high, like bottom of the bumper high, so im like ****, i was tailgating another car so the water was kinda lower than it shouldve been, so i see a median opening, and i Uturn, I shouldve just stayed there , but instead i tryed going into the lot just on the side of the street when splooosh, water up to the headlights, by then i new the motor was fucked, just as i pull into the lot the motor stops

it sucks, cuz this happen saturday, and i had both Sat and Sunday off from work, 1st time in a loooong time, i planned on painting my valve cover and some other detailing, but now, now i see no point.

since then, i did flush out the old oil, yes it looked a bit milky, im positive i have a bent rod, the motor sounds horrid, i replaced the plugs too, I put my stock intake back on and took off the n2o just like last time i had to take it to the dealer.

I dont know what to do, my family doesnt want to use the insurance, cause we already have 2 claims on it, and they dont want to be "high risk" users again

OK, people made suggestions the first time you explained what happened (suggestions which basically involve defrauding Mazda... but well intentioned suggestions). If you don't want to take their suggestions, I guess you're SOL if your mommy and daddy will be upset about higher insurance rates (if insurance will even cover it). What else do you want from people here? If you mod your car, it's your problem if your mod directly causes a problem (as is clearly the case here). Your engine is messed ....face up to the fact that you have few options.
Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but that's how I feel.

Is this part of the madeup story or the real story? If water was up to the headlights, I doubt that you could move anywhere......

I believe him only because I lived in houston for 2 years and I know exactlly how the roads are there. Sometimes it rains so hard that you may think your fine on the road but if you turn into a store or something it may be lower and all of a sudden you hit a BIG puddle and over the hood it goes. Most of the time its just a puddle and you cruise throught it easily unless you have a CAI

Ummmm, just a thought here guys. But do you think that its possible perhaps Mazda employees browse these boards and find out about stuff like this?

No, I'm sure Mazda employees all live in their isolated world and also blindly believe everything their customers say, and think that all cars that come in have legitimate manufacturing defects. I'm sure they would never suspect that a problem is caused by abuse of a car or by a modification that causes an engine to suck water instead of air.

Seriously, I, for one, could not take my car with a drowned / hydrolocked engine in and say with a straight face "I don't know what happened, she just died".

But anyone is welcome to try to pull a fast one on Mazda. Although... who knows.... maybe the word is already out among the dealers in the Houston area about this kid with the waterlogged White P5 that will be limping in, looking perfectly stock?

take it to the dealer...most of the time the dealer will try and fix it if their is no obvious abuse or mods to the engine...you forget,a mechanic is in the business to fix cars, and the factory pays them for warranty repairs...You guys act like the dealer has to fix it for free if its under warranty...It doesnt cost the customer anything, but it's hardly free....I had my tranny replaced before and it didnt cost me a dime even though I had left my intake and strut bar on...they didn't even blink....but they charged Mazda $3000 to do it!! Hardly free!!

No matter what you say, hydro-locking your engine while driving through a puddle, whether you had a stock or Injen intake on, will be deemed abuse, as you shouldn't have been driving in water that deep. The moment they figure it's hydro-locked, you're SOL.

Pay up...
After reading this thread, a couple comments come to mind.
Ok, you had the intake on and you f***** your engine, if you get stuck with the bill I guess you get what you deserve. However...

We also know that Houston has some pretty fucked weather and roads as per mito.

I don't personally agree with frauding Mazda, but I have been screwed enough by dealerships to not knock anyone who does.

We also know dealerships don't pay for the repairs and acutally make money. So...

The best story contains a grain of truth. Put your stock intake back on, go to the dealership (tow it in) , tell them you had to go to work, pick up your mom, etc during the heavy rain, and after going through a deep puddle/getting severely splashed by a rig the car stalled. (I probably would have left the oil in). Let the dealership come back with the "you hydrolocked your engine". Look at them blankly and say, is that common?
Chances are they will fix it, and tell you not to drive in deep water etc...
If they say we don't cover that, phone mazda, if they still don't negotiate or offer to pay half, how worse off are you? The worse they can do is say get lost.

Just my $0.02
Stocker.

"Back in tha day..."

In the late 80's when I bought my GN, both I and fellow local GN owners often ran into this same situation.. Us running 21+ pounds of boost, etc didn't always produce the best reliability.. The local dealer would usually fix us right up.. We'd remove/detune the offending modification, and they would replace the headgasket/torque converter/(insert part here) without much fuss. After a while though... Buick Corporate noticed the high number of warantee claims at this dealership for the GN's.. And began having an outside (from different dealer) service writer come in and do the repair estimates on the GNs..

Thus what used to be free head gasket replacements bacame a $3000 engine rebuild repair bill for me in 1990. For that price however, I got all the good internal goodies, and the assembly was done with surgical precision. Worth it? Yes.. Was I happy with Buick? Hell No.. But I was a kid and expected everything to be given to me regardless of what kind of irresponsible act caused me to be in the dire straits I was in at the time.

So.. Moral? Try whatever you want to get your car repaired.. It might come back to you in the long run (as well as your fellow P5 owners in the Houston area)..

I think the water to the headlights was probably caused by waves from another car. I live in Louisiana. We have our share of horrid weather/roads. I had a 95 Grand Am, and the gaskets blew which caused water to get into the engine. The engine sounded HORRIBLE, so I had it towed to my house. I looked at the oil, and it looked like a Frappachino from Starbucks. I drained the oil, and flushed it with some engine cleaner stuff. I forget what it was called, but it cleans your engine pretty well to prevent rust from the water. I put new oil in, and voila...the engine was still fucked... I wound up having to replaced the engine, which ran me about $1,000 bucks. This was a steal, since I knew the mechanic that did this. Well, I wish you the best of luck, and for gods sake everyone, DONT drive your Proteges in horrid weather unless its an emergency!

Umm yeah, but these "codenames" as you so liek to call them aren't really that secretive. How hard would it be to go into someon's profile, get their e-mail address? Or look at the make of the car they are describing, the mods they have on it, the location they are from, and the problems they have with their particular car. I mean come on man, you have to know that the net, especially public forums like this aren't exactly the most secure place to post information.

And so what if my parents named me Sweedenhouse? They were pot smoking hippies.
