First off, Seeing as to how the INJEN and CAI have both been Dyno'd at nearly the same HP gains as a K&N drop in... People still baffle me as to why they are spending 200$ on these...
If You
a) Have a Turbo
b) Intake manifold
c) free flowing exhaust w/ no cats
Then an high performance intake will help greatly... Otherwise, it is really not worth the risk...
Personally, The fact that you hydro locked your engine sucks... In Florida we have wash outs all the time, and I can understand the decieveing factor of puddles... However, you are taking your car in with New plugs (Never been fired) and fresh oil (no milage on it) and a bent rod.. even if you go in and your 'SOS' (stuck on Stupid) they will know something is up...
Uhhh, I guess good luck..

Water up to the headlights is actually fairly common in Houston. Much of the city is at Sea Level and we get STORMS here. We probably had four inches of rain within an hour in some parts of town on Saturday night when this happened. That much rain overwhelms the drainage systems and we flood. Happens at least three or four times a year.
A lot of people flood their cars here by driving into standing water. Another thing to consider about this incident is that Patio's car is lowered with GC coilovers. His headlights aren't your headlights, but anyway...there's no BS in his story. Anyone living in Houston would believe him in a minute
Patio, I'm with the guy who said "reinstall the stock intake, but then just tell them almost truly what happened." "Hey, I HAD to go out to get to work, or pick up my mom from work or some reason to be out." Be upfront about changing the oil and stuff cause you suspected what happened. The smaller the lie, the better it'll work. It IS within the realm of possibility that you could have hydrolocked a stock intake on Saturday night. Honestly if the water was over your headlights it was as high as the stock intake right??

Umm yeah, but these "codenames" as you so liek to call them aren't really that secretive. How hard would it be to go into someon's profile, get their e-mail address? Or look at the make of the car they are describing, the mods they have on it, the location they are from, and the problems they have with their particular car. I mean come on man, you have to know that the net, especially public forums like this aren't exactly the most secure place to post information.
And so what if my parents named me Sweedenhouse? They were pot smoking hippies.

yeah it's not the smartest thing but think of this-look at a puddle at night in a place you've never been before-then look at a canal or lake at night. 20ft of water looks just like 2 inches at night, especially if it's pourin and the lights are out. I just got my car hit earlier today so there's someone born every minute. No harsh intensions here.
Sucks man, when sh*t happens you're always left w/o an umbrella

BTW: Where the hell do you people live where there can be a blind 3 foot deep puddle that no one knows about? Do you see alot of kids sitting on their front porch playing the banjo?

Farsyde, I'd like to accept your idea that it sneaks up on people, but gotta say that 90% of 'em are just dumb.
We have streets here that flood almost everytime it rains. And every time it rains the news is full of people being swamped in those exact same places. A few of them might be the occassional out of towner, but most are probably just dumb people on the way to work.

Hell, when Allison came through I was driving up 45 (didn't turn on the news and realize we had a flood, the water receeded from our area by the time I woke up). All of the sudden the wife says something like is that car coming towards us. And sure enough about a dozen cars had turned around where I-45 had turned into a lake and were heading right back at us. But driving down that stretch of road in the morning it never looks like it would flood like that, and it had claimed its share of cars. Sometimes you just don't think that road/intersection/ditch would ever be flooded enough to get your car. I feel for you there Patio. Hope Mazda gets you fixed up.
Psssssttt.... I thought it was a "Green" Protege5 with no mods? Yeah, thats the ticket.

Lost-concept...guess you'd beter hold off on driving through three foot puddles. Read through the posts and see how this happened. It's a safe bet it'll never happen to you.
