well my friend, the p5 was designed from the outset to outhandle the sedan. everything about the p5 is better...the quality, reliability, the technical aspects of the car...everything... just the looks kill the sedan right away.
thats why they call the p5 the sadan killer! haha

Well, i had an ES, then got an MSP, so basically i like the sedans. I test drove both and personally liked the sedan better. to me the p5 is pretty cool, but i just dont like hatchbacks. Plus the rear on them doesnt really look all that great either. you can add a bumper and skirts to a sedan and it will look much better. look at teh mp3 vs the mp5, the mp3 looks better. just up to you though, theyll let you test drive both im sure. drive both, see which you like and then buy the one YOU want. dont go by what others say because then youll never like what you have. if that was the case i would have gotten the p5 cause i asked other owners which car i should get a long time ago and i wound up getting the ES instead of the p5 just because i liked it more.

I really wanted a P5 when I bought my first car b/c I wanted something that would stand out in a crowd. The only thing was it seemed ridiculous to pay 4 grand (the smallest difference b/t the sedan and wagon there was in my area) more for a car with the same engine and pretty much everything else too minus styling. It depends on how economical you want to be about it. I'm a poor college student so I had to think smartly about money.

If you enjoy great handling and compliments on the ride get the P5. All I've done is tint the windows, put Eibach springs on (lowered a little, much better handling) with a chrome exhaust tip (ran out of money). Car handles on/off ramps like its on rails. Car gets looks everywhere I drive and compliments when I'm parked. My car enthusiast 13 year old 6-foot tall son fits in the car comfortably (front or back) and loves to show it off to his friends.

fks

Both of them suck, it shouldn't be a selling point.

Its a personal choice, but i prefer the sedan. there seem to be a lot more P5's on the road with mods where i live. The sedan will make you a bit more unique

Count another vote for the ES. Personal opinion, though. I'm only 23... not ready to own a station wagon.

Dude, quit pulling facts out of your ***. You don't have a clue what you're saying. The current P5 and sedan were designed at the same time, although we didn't get the P5 in the US until 2001. As far as the "quality, reliability, the technical aspects" of the P5 being better, that's BS. THEY'RE THE SAME!

I love the P5, but don't listen to this kid. Drive both and see what you like better, you shouldn't care what anyone else thinks. Also, you want want to wait and check out the 2004 Mazda 3.

Where are you getting this info from??? This is all BS! The P5 was designed on the ES platform and both cars are identical quality-wise, reliability-wise and technical-aspect-wise! Stop making **** up!

ES all the way. I love the way the P5 looks, but its still a wagon. And I also think my ES handles the same as the P5, the only diff is the P5 has a strut tower bar, which doesn't make a huge difference for handling. And the 70ish lbs less on my car means it goes a lil' faster, very lil' tho!

shut your mouth before you make all of us p5 owners look bad. where the hell did you get the idea that the quality, reliability, and technical aspects are better than a regular sedan? are you friggin stupid? they're the same damn components.

the p5 was NOT designed to outhandle the sedan. if the p5 was so much better than the regular protege, than why did mazda make a protege mazdaspeed in the sedan ONLY? is it because the sedan's rear suspension is better because it has an integrated rear strut assembly that was taken out because of the hatch area of the p5? the p5 also weighs more than the sedan. you think added weight makes the car handle better? check your physical laws, brother.

and on this topic of looks, that is something that is totally personal preference. my uncle hates the way an s2000 looks. my dad thinks its beautiful. so who's right? god, you're a moron.

i think you're a total moron with bird crap for brains. if you take my comments so seriously then you have *** for brains.
my post wasnt suppose to be taken so seriously...both cars are the same, same engine, everything is the same but well, the p5 is just damn better looking.
but thats besides the point, my post was designed to weed out turkeys like you...and then have a good laugh! hahaha

down and dirty

hey Matt....I talked to her today and walked out with a Vivid Yellow P5. I knew my gut instinct about her was dead on. She was such a sweetheart. Anyway, after 4 hours in the showroom...I got a 2003 P5. FUlly loaded. Everything EXCEPT the roof rack was already installed in the car. CAr was a demo with 4800 miles on it already. Walked out today paying 15.8k and some change. I drove it home and I am pretty much the happiest person right now. THanks all to commented on the post and thanks MATT. I mentioned you when I saw her and she says hi ....now

what my first mod will be..MUAHAHAHA..the games have begun

I personally have a p5...the reason is I just don't want a "regular" sedan and I would like more space when necessary. Furthermore, the size/price/handling/look of P5 is a perfect choice for me.

I agree that both sedan and P5 are great cars...outperform almost every other cars in the same segament...and either sedan or wagon, it's really a personal choice.

BTW, in Taiwan, the place where I came from, the many people enjoy modifying their cars no matter legally or illegaly.. There even have Subaru WRX assembled in Taiwan in both sedan and wagon version. In many magazines and races, all came out the wagon version has a better performance in handling( with same modification) because of the weigh distribution. Anyone has more details info? I mean the weight distribution of our protege sedan or P5?

Last, for me, getting a car very personal. only you know what you need, only you know what you want, get a car you can afford and meets your expection then don't care what others say. My b-i-l got a 2004 WRX STi, before that, he has a 2002 WRX with some mods, when I wanted to buy a P5, he kept telling me that 130 hp is not enough...and said I should get a wrx wagon then I can do the same mods...I know 130hp is not an impressive number, but with 5-spd stick, it meets my expection. Also, there is a 6 grand price difference,,,

anyway, get the car meets your expection, then don't care whatever others say..

Jason
