I can't imagine why, with a car as new as yours is, that having to do the cleaning, polishing and then waxing would really be required.
So, you recommend that I shouldnt do it so soon? I only have about 5k miles on the car, 5 months of use. I only have 2 dings in my rear bumper, hardly noticable. I also have some chips on my front edge of the hood. I havent fixed them yet, but my magnabra that I installed a month ago should prevent future chips on the hood.

I cant see such a new car requiring anything more than a good waxing.

MnkyBoy, what I ment was I can't see where it would or should need POLISHING and waxing....but WAX IT! ......

mine doesn't even have 3500 on it yet and its been done and will continue to be waxed.

just remember that ANY cleaners you use on the car or if you have to buff a small scratch out, will remove any protectant or wax you have put on and at a minimum that area should be re-waxed.

I have to differ on some of the views here. I much prefer the electric buffer (orbital, not rotary of course) to doing it by hand. You just cannot get rid of minor scratches by hand and the eveness (?) of application isn't there either. And orbital buffers are much safer than rotary ones (that's where the horror stories come from) because the pressure and heat just aren't there.

After loaning out my car to a relative who got it dirty and then washed it to be nice (IN AN OLD DRIVE-THRU CARWASH!), my car had swirls out the wazoo. Hand polishing didn't do it, only once I got the orbital did they finally begin to fade from existence. I recommend Meguiar's Swirl Remover, booyah! Anywho, go look at some serious detailing forums, most recommend switching to the orbital buffer once you get comfortable with your car care routine.

Mnkyboy, use a cleaning and polishing routine like Sir Nuke mentioned. I use Meguiars products but there are others that work just as well. Try out their online prescription, it is pretty slick. But remember not to skimp out and only wax, b/c it is only a shield from the elements and dinging. Paint oxidation will occur even with constant waxing. The high quality polishes help bolster the paint's protection against those, on top of removing scratches and shining up the surface. It's worth the money just to watch after a hailstorm and heavy crappy rain all my coworkers cars have sheets of water and mine has little bitty beads. Heh.

Very true...the horror stories come from ROTARY buffers.....the small orbital ones you can buy at many stores are pretty safe....guess I should have been more specific.....

but a rotary buffer can get you in trouble in a heart beat.
