ye....like i always think of people that freqeunt boards as someone that knows stuff about computers....and alot of people that frequent boards like hacking and know alot of advanced stuff (well mainly computer boards) but some computer enthusiasts are also car enthusiasts (like me)

so posting your vin number on an actual internet board may be dangerous....for the reasons stated above.

So you see...not just anyone with a pen and paper can write down a VIN and get all teh info...generally more technically advanced people can....but seeing this is on the net...its dangerous

well thats just my opinion... so don't do it...

well thats just my opinion... so don't do it...

I believe that it was on an RX-7 forum that some guy posted his VIN and someone that was local to that guy found out a bunch of stuff and jacked his car.

Just a thought, I'm not sure where the last 2 entries on the poll came from, they are not my questions, And for those voting, I am wishing someone to share with me how it is that cold dampness causing an ignition fuse to blow or 2 sets of wheel bearings in 13000 miles could even remotely qualify as abuse. Perhaps this is a "special car" that should only be driven on exceptionally nice days, or maybe I'm ruining this gem by turning the wheels left or right. This board certainly has a manufacturer's slant to it, Hopefully all of you good folks do not get taken for the ride I'm on. Once again I wish you the best of luck . Jim

I don't know who added the last two options to your poll (admins? 'fess up!!). But I'm glad someone did. I voted for "abuse" because I can't believe failure of the tranny, wheel bearings and all the other woes you list can't have something to do with the way the car was driven. You say everything was fine for the first 4000 miles. How were you driving it? I've read a lot of topics on this list. I haven't seen anything from anyone with a complaint anywhere close to yours. I can't think your experience is merely bad luck. One thing going out? Yes. I'd say "bad luck." All of 'em together? I say "bad driving."

It strikes me odd as well, though your car is under warrenty, you're being required to pick up a major part of the cost. I speculate repair showed abuse of the vehicle and is a part of the story you're leaving out. My sense is that Mazda's paying more than its share to get your car back on the street. I'm glad your street isn't near any of mine.

Daaaaaaaamn....dem's fightin words.

Although, when I was doing research on cars, I noticed that cars with historically bad reliability ratings (the 99 Saab I almost bought comes to mind) have tons of negative posts from owners on car sites (MSN, Edmunds). Don't see many (at all) of these types of posts for the Protege. Plus, for things like trannies going at 12k...there is usually some sort of pattern associated (Anyone remember Dodge Dakota pickups and their autos going with <20k a few years ago?)

I must say that the whole thing sounds a little weird to me as well...and when you say this board has a manufacturers slant to it...remember that people are here to discuss a car that they own and like...with other people who own and like the same car. It's kinda the point.

Good luck man...and when all else fails, drive it 60 miles and trade it in.

Mazda is picking up the cost of the tranni but since the clutch is warrantied for but 12000 miles they say I am responsible for that cost. Even though the tranni failure was the cause of the clutch failure. Be very very careful of the info posted on this site or specifically lack of it. I find suspicous anyone who declares they love any car(and there are some very nice cars), Unquestioning loyalty to a manufacturer is another red flag for me, unless of course you happen to represent their interest. Can we say sales man or Dealer, These questions were directed towards owners who do not receive their autos as a portion of their employment agreements. Good luck, Jim

I have no idea why they are using a rebuilt tranni, scary to me too. And the warranty is only applicable to non wear related items. brakes, tires, clutches etc are excluded, it actually says that in the owners manual as well. I could deal with that if it were my neglect or abuse that caused it but .... Well I've gone over that until you poor folks are sick of hearing it. jim
