Power steering fluid change?
Last week when I went to get my oil changed, the guy at the shop told me I needed to change power steering fluid. He gave me some kind of sample he took (I think it was wack), and tried to talk me into getting it changed. Just wandering if any of you have had to change the PS fluid yet, as I don't really know when you should get it changed. My car has about 25k on it, I figured it would be ok. I'm not too worried about it, but any info is greatly appreciated.

... if there is no whine in the pump, the fluid does not smell burnt, the steering feels normal (no strange variation in the assist) and the level is normal, I would just leave it alone. 28K on my P5, and haven't touched my fluid. Also, I think if you look in your owner's manual, you'll see that there are not many maintenance items up to 30K. Pretty much just oil changes and tire rotations. At 30K, you'll need new plugs and such, but not pwr steering fluid!

dont EVER listen to those oil change guys. If you absolutely MUST take it in instead of DIY...just let them change the oil and say NO to ANYTHING else...those guys are given incentives to upsell you

same thing happened to my gf. she went in for an oil change and was told she needed to change out her coolant because it was too old and wouldn't cool right. too bad i just flushed it this summer. bastards. those oil places don't make that much money with oil changes. the oil change is just to get you in there, then all of a sudden, your car has all these other necessary changes and your final bill comes out to be like $100. don't let them swindle you out of your money.
