I wont cuss you out or anything..but lets just say watch your mouth....the majority of these cars are sedans, and if they didnt sell well the mp3 or p5 would never have saw the light of day....I like the front bumber on a P5 better but the sedan handles better and weighs less tahnk you

okay, i am trying to understand something.

you are on the PROTEGE forum, and you're asking if people on the PROTEGE forum think the PROTEGE is ugly? did you forget where you are?

no offense taken, everyone is entitled, but hey.

out of the other cars in the field, (honda civic, toyota corrola, nissan sentra?, ford focus, etc) i think it is the best looking. it doesn't scream bad *** machine out at me, but the styling is nice and a little plain.
i think the new civics are ugly

shrink your sig!!!!!

the biggest reason the P5 and MP3 catches more attention is because of those bigass fog lights installed in that front bumper.

replace the sedan bumper with the P5 bumper and voila! instant popularity!

I think the 99-00 sedans look great. Clean lines with a European flair. Then they had to f*ck it up for 2001. The front end doesn't go well with the rest of the body's styling IMO. Rounded off front end with a chiseled body everywhere else. Looks like a little girl smiling or something to me. The MP3/Protege5's front end however look great. Not as girly, and real agressive.

And for the clueless, here's the difference between the 99-00 and the 01-03 models:

I have to agree with everyone else here: if the Protege sedan never made the Protege name as popular as it is today, there would be no Protege5/MP3/Mazdaspeed-Protege. I have a 2002 ES and love the way it looks. I considered alot of other cars in the class (Civic (FUGLY!), Sentra (what's with that horrid back?), Neon (don't get me started)) before making a decision and now whenever I see the competitors on the road, it makes me feel so good that I chose the Protege! Besides, I prefer the small foglights over the rally-style Pro5/MP3 fogs: to each his own.

BTW, I know you weren't trying to put anyone down, but most of us here are sedan owners and alot of us might take your comments the wrong way.

Protege sedans rock!

I think the sedan looks more refined, the wagon looks more "youthful", that is the styling is more agressive, but lacks a certain class.

However, I do think the sedans that do NOT have the factory trunk spoiler look at little boring from the back end.

I almost like the look of the second gen sedans better than the third, but not quite.

That reminds me: Does a P5 bumper cover fit on a sedan of the same model year without modification?

I agree! I definitely think the new bumper/grill/foglights are much better than the initial gen3 offerings. I find the grill and separate amber blinker hideous on the initial gen3 offerings. The new headlamp unit and grill look great on dark colors (black mica, emerald mica, etc.), so the white car in the picture in a previous post is a very bad and biased example.
