Protege5 comparo & top speed
#61
Not really going to get into the conversation itself, but when reading a magazine, a sport bike magazine I believe, they were testing the accuracy of speedometers and said the two best ways are to get it on a radar gun, which obviously isnt easy unless you have a really kool cop friend, but another good way is to get a handheld GPS unit, it will track you very accurately and can tell you your top speed....I've never done anything too fast(yet), but a while back my brother took the car while it was still my moms and said he hit 120 easily, and this is in a stock MP3....

Not a P5 but a 2002 ES 2.0...
In the Middle of Nevada on I-80 on a Hot July night....
Anyway, July '03 I was driving from my bay area CA home to SLC, UT when I decided while the Mrs. was asleep to open it up when an Eclipse tried to pass.
So after dropping to 4th and actually leaving the guy behind, I keep going through 5th and see what it would do. With not much wind on perfectly flat roadway, it appeared to meet the wind resistance at what the speedo said was ~132 MPH.
This was before I had done my only "mod" which was putting in an OEM K&N replacement air filter. (Since then, I have only noticed better mileage. I get about 35 MPG when I am conservative with it. (Which is rare.) Otherwise I get 30-32 MPG.
Pretty good for a fairly zippy car. )

gbean I guess all our speedos arent accurate according to some. The middle of nevada is anywhere that isnt the city of reno or vegas. And with that much open road, you know your atleast 150-200 miles from any town/village which means no cops. Good stuff.

I appreciate opinion no matter what it is, no matter if it doesnt favor mine, I appriciate it. So hughes no hard feeling on this end.
