Rear Turn Signals? what bulbs is it?

whats up people

i was just curious as to what bulbs is our rear turn signal, fo ra 2000 protege, i'm pretty sure its the same for a 01, and 02.

i've went tot he mazda dealer and they told me "take the tail light off, so we can match it up" arent' theys upposed to know?

i look in the owners manual and it is the ONLY BULB that doesn't have a bulb type listed. just says "rear turn" . i took it out it looks like an 1156 or 1157, but it isn't. anyone who knows what kind of bulb it is, let me know. i really hate that orange turn. its freakin ugly

thanks

i had ben dean give me the #'s listed in his shop manual... this is what it says... even the big shop manual doesn't list a turn signal... i was too lazy to go take the tail light off again, and ordered a 194 for the turn signal... i'm pretty sure it's not it. :[ i'll let you know tomorrow when i pull the tails off again.

headlights h4
front turn signals 1157
rear side markers 194
taillights 194
brake lights 7443
back up lights 7440

No bulb really "fits". The prongs that line the bulb up with the socket are positioned differently so that a normal bulb with prongs directly opposite each other won't fit.

What you can do is find a bulb that is the correct wattage, sand off one of the prongs and try to fit it. It should work fine.

194 don't work. I tried it and it is the wrong bulb, even though the people at autobulbdepot.com told me they were the size. Dicks.

damn, this is shitty

is it me, or is this shitty?

how is mazda going to make a bulb for the rear turn signal, and not have it for purchase. autozone sid they have no clue what kind of bulbs it is, and to take the tail light off so they can match it up. what i fhtat bulb bunrs out? what do we do then?

i think this sucks. it looks just like an 1156 bulbs, but the socket is like weird as hell. and the bulb that is in the tail light DOES NOT HAVE A BULB NUMBER ON IT. might be an 1156 and a 1/2 ha ha ha.

**** it, i give up. guess i'm ahave to ride orange

Hey, don't give up!

It's 7440. I've changed mine to normal clear bulbs and it's bright as hell!!! (I'd better put a sign saying "Please do not look directly into the rear blinkers"... hahaha)

Anyway, there is ONE thing. Not all 7440s will fit. The 7440s are wedge bulbs that are entirely made of glass (including the base). Try different brands. I tried some that I got from pepboys and autozone and they would go in a little, but not enuff to get lighted, and would fall off easily. I found some at Walmart and with a bit of force, they got in really tight, but it works! Been using those for like 5 months now and no problem whatsoever. (well, execpt i'm blinding the geezus out of the guy driving behind me -- i'm not kidding, i've observed from my mirror that some of them would look away or put their palm up on the steering wheel to block some of the light)

So definitely buy from places that allow you to return them. I think mine were made by GE

Good luck!

u sure?

i thought the reverse light ws the 7440 bulb?

casue the rear turn signal isn't a wedge in my protege, it looks similar to the 1156 and 1157 bulbs. i really hope its something comon, cuase i wouln't mind having led's in the back.

Hmm, my bad, mine's a P5, so they might be different. Sorry for the confusion.

Take the bulb to the dealer and insult them if they don't know
