Remote Car Starter w/Keyless Entry

Hi Everyone.

I'm planning on getting a remote car starter (maybe with an alarm as well) installed and was told that some cars need a module to use the keyless entry feature. I already have power door locks so I was just wondering if I would still need that module?

When I bought my car from the dealer (it was a year and a half old) it had a starter installed but they removed it because it supposedly isn't good for the engine. I would think this is BS.

A place here in Canada will install a starter with alarm for about $400 Canadian, or $179 for just the starter installed. Is this GENERALLY a good price.

Thanks for your help,

Jonny

Depends, I guess. I'm not too familiar with the prices, but I was thinking of getting an alarm system myself. I kind of want the clifford brand. I hear they're quite expensive though. What brand are you looking at for that price?

Clifford (a subsidiary of DEI) is fine, Viper etc (DEI) is fine, more than half of the cost involves labor. The module you referred to has to do with the interface between the alarm and the electric locks of the car. My P-5 and Miata both needed this module. It is not overly expensive. Cheers

bought an UltraStart 4500... its 2-way with LCD alarm and starter.... works GREAT... got it for 600 installed (installation was 250 w/keyless entry and hatch unlock), this si VERY comparable to the compustar series... plus this 4500 has a range of 1/4 mile. And trust me, i've tried it from great distances w/ lots of obscurites and i cant beleive how well it works. plus i love the fact thats its a 2-way remote... if you touch mycar, it tells me... if my car started, it tells me and how much time is left, if you open my trunk( if you can get that far) it tells me....... look into this combo.. best thing i have gotten for my car.

Thanks for your help guys. I will have to go down to the store and find out some more details. I think the starter by itself was called E-Z Start. The store is called Gibby's in St. Catharines, ON.
The UltraStart 4500 that ZiO bought sounds really nice.
