You waste a hell of a lot of time, not accelerating between gears while those automatics are breathing up your *** and passing you.
With a short throw you're in the next gear and accelerating again a lot sooner.

I dunno about the time it takes to shift a SS....I raced P5's with several people who all have short shifters and more mods than me and I beat them everytime. I can't imagine there is much time saved by using a SS.

The best shifters I've seen are for the 99-04 Mustangs ...each gear is spring loaded. You pull it out of first and it shoots into second...you push it out of second and it jams into thrid....4th and 5th you're on your own but it's awesome for drag racing.....p.s. that shifter is huge and tall.

A short shifter shortens the length of the throw between shifts by lengthening the part of the shifter below the fulcrum(i think thats what its called)...you shift with a simple flick of the wrist instead of using your whole arm...that's the idea but mostly...............it looks cool

yup yup...i also vote more for looks.

I've seen some shifters slow down shift times...due to poor design or bad bushings.
