Mine does stink alittle bit. Its not like a foul odor smell. It more like a burntish smell. I only notice this when I have it Full Heat and Full blast. This could also be because we are using them for the first time

I haven't noticed it with my '00 ES, but I don't have the greatest sense of smell.

i was actually going to ask mazda on the next service about this..cause its bloody annoying.

it happens mostly when u use the heater but also a little bit when u use the a/c

no one ive spoken to has pinpointed the source of the smell..

so the only solution ive found is to use the 'double-pronged' attack. eg. i use crystalls in the ashtray + airfreshner

All heaters smell when you first use them. A window a/c-heater will do the same thing. The burnt smell is the coils heating up. But the smell should go away after a while. If you smell it everytime you use the heater in the winter then I might say you have a problem but if you don't smell it after the heater is warmed up then I would say that it is normal. My 2cents!

mine smells like a damm fishtank

that needs cleaning badly, I didnt even turn on the heater for 8 months, but now it is getting cold out, the dealer is worthless as usual, I even get fog coming out of it steaming up my windshield
I may sell the car because I cannot stand it..
I guess I will rip it apart when I get a little more annoyed and see if I can find the problem.

If it smells like a dirty one, your core is broken and leaking the stench of coolant into your cars interior. If you are brave enough pop open the reservoir cap and take a deep inhale with your nostrils right above the the tank. If it reminds you of prom night, and the interior odor, you have more than one problem (I won't get into the other problem)

Also it blows "fog" onto the windsheild because the A/C is activated for defrost. Depending on humidity and stuff you can sometimes blow condensation out of the vents. I have seen it a few times too. Just leave it on, it will go away

any smell that comes from the heater/ac is usually just a mildew problem... can be solved by spraying lysol in the the exteroir vent.. and letting it run into the system on full heat.. may need multiple applications.. or even check the parts store for hvac deodorizer... common problem.. happened in my probe.. lysold it and it went away..

Lightbulb smell

I had the exact same problem with my AC and heat in my 99 Pro. I solved my problem by removing the glove box, and then taking out a small Card looking thing that has a wire hooked to it that is in the evaporator with 2 screws. After I removed that card, I then sprayed Lysol in the evaporator and that solved the problem. I think that the evaporator had mold in it which causes the bad SMELL. Wish I could give better detail, but I am very bad at explaining things.

Smell

Smell
Does anybody have this smell coming up from the hood every once and a while?
I see no leaks and the system as been pressure tested , but I still get the smell once and a while. So I can not be the only one or am I?
