Sport Compact Car coverage
I don't know how many people here are regular SCC readers, so I'll pass this info along. The current issue of SCC has a little bit of Protege coverage in it. There is a sidebar to a rallying article about Eric Burmeister's rally racing Protege. They mention a few shops that might be good Protege resources. The shops built various parts for the Speedvision World Challenge Touring series Protege race cars, as well as Eric's rally car. They even mention one of them built adjustable cam pulleys. There is another small section in the Project car update article about their new Mazda MP3 project car. They plan to test the FS-ZE intake manifold and MonsterFlow intake in an upcoming issue. The project car could be of particular interest if they really do some development of it. We are in desperate need of new parts and information about the new FP/FS engine in the 3rd gen Proteges, IMHO. I encourage every one to email SCC about parts they know are available for the 3rd gen Protege to show interest in the articles, and promote as much testing and development of the MP3 as possible. SCC's budjet, knowledge, and contacts could go a long way towards opening some aftermarket doors for the Protege crowd.

Project Mazda MP3
The Mazda MP3 is nicely tweaked out of the box. It looks good, handles superbly and has a great stereo. In the few months it's been in our hands, the Mazda has been a favorite mountain road thrasher and an occasional track warrior. Feature editor, Jared Holstein took the MP3 to a NASA driving school and came back glowing about the factory-installed Racing Beat suspension.
In fact, the MP3 is so well sorted already, it really only needs one thing: 50 more hp. Unfortunately, the Protege's 2.0-liter mill has relatively little aftermarket support. Mazda does race the Protege in the Speedvision World Challenge and in the SCCA ProRally championship, however, so we're trying to draw from that experience. Sunbelt Performance in Atlanta (builder of the World Challenge engines), and Mazda Competition say the engine responds to compression and camshaft changes, so we've ordered a Sport 20 intake cam from Mazda Competition. The Sport 20 is the Japanese version of the Protege5, which is rated at 170 hp. In the first full project report, we'll test the camshaft, some cam timing changes and a Monster Flow intake.

It's a great mag, and hopefully they'll do some great things with their Project MP3 in the next coming issues...
Here's the email addy that's listed on their site, email'em and give them any info and support you'd like (as well as plugging this one!!)

I like your enthusiasm guys, but if we email them the same info from the same people over and over, they are likely to ignore it. I'd like to see different individuals send well thought out emails about specific things they would like to see tested on SCC's MP3 Project car. We want to give them ideas and let them know there's interest without being a pain.
