It's DVD based, but won't play DVD movies. It may be possible to get, but the only discs you'll be able to find are for the countries that this unit is available in. You can go with an Eclipse unit that looks similar and will also allow you to watch movies from an external DVD player.

the real reason for these things (vanity-display of who knows what) could be addressed by manufacturing a fake one that weighs no more than a clip on shell...remember those fake cell phones? I just keep thinking of the guys cruising up and down sunset blvd. alone in their black escalades talking on the phone with like two flip down tv screens running in the back, I guess for all the honeys to watch when they pile into the pimpmobile...not.

nothing personal, unless you get one in which case...l o s e r.
There's always a hater out there.....Each to his own man. If a guy wants DVD/NAV, then let him. I wouldn't mind having one. Since when does adding an extra 15 or so pounds a bad thing. It's not like having a Turbo'd P5, MP3, or ES is going to make your car a 13 second monster. If you really want to save weight, then strip your interior. Just my thoughts though

but its tru, even tho adding a turbo will make it allot more faster, unless the whole car is stripped down, then whats the point in saying you shouldn't have this weight, and that weight in there. So I say for now, do what you like, if you run that with the stock speakers, it will be lighter than someone putting in 4 12 inch subs in a custom box, lol, so I say make it fast but at least still keep the style these cars have, add the screens lol If i had money I would

A nav system would very useful to me - just about everyday I work in a new place, and a nav system would be able to replace my big briefcase full of Hagstroms.

I agree - hate those who have one for looks alone. But do have enough understanding to realize that some people would actually USE something like this on a regular basis.

I will own one someday - when the prices come down to justifiable levels. Right now, $2-$3k vs. $20 bucks when I spill coffee on a Hagstrom - I'll stick with the spiral bounds (and I don't even spring for the laminated pages - the regular paper suits me fine).

Well, its not like maps and stuff wouldn't suffice, but at some point I'll be getting a gps system for our MP5. Not everyone's purpose for their MP5 is to make it go fast, its a fun car to drive, and at some point I will add mild turbo setup, leather recaro SRDs and some sound dampening to make the car more comfortable to drive, not to make it the faster car on the block, I have an FD for that (which is anything but luxurious)

oh I'm only half serious half the time, but really I understand the fascination with most technology. I just wonder where you draw the line, I mean do we live in such a bubble? Like 90% of the planet survives with quite a bit less than most North Americans (you canadians can play too...not you silly Mexicans, yes Mexico is in in NA not central). As a country we consume an enormous share of resources and sometimes I think people forget how to tie their own shoes when the new Sony Cyber RoboXshooTie Mechman comes to market...look it TIES your shoes for you AND it PLAYS MP3'S! I mean hey I worked as a messenger in Los Angeles for a year and I know it's a bitch to squint through 600 pages looking for John Doe St....is it N, W, E,S wait a minute there's no St, is it Ave, Blvd,Ln...my point being it can be done without creating more landfill crap that going to generate some toxin that will end up in the drinking supply. Really it's the message that bothers me, if one or two people had them, whatever, but as a nation you just know that one rap video shows one and EVERYBODY has to have them. I guess I just wonder if people realize that it's stuff like this that makes the rest of the world hate us so much...and drives up national credit debt.? Again 1/2 serious, 1/2 the time and if you read this, well I don't mind being flamed...I actually enjoy it. so flame on little riceboi.
It sounds like your drawing the line at what you want. There would be plenty to say that drawing the line at taking public transit is the farthest you should go, and some say bicycles. Who's right? Is it you, being self-righteous and judgemental calling people names?

drawing the line? mmm, no I drive a pro5 and I recognize that I could do more...but hey I recycle and I don't dump oil into the gutter.

Who's right? mmm, as I said 1/2 joking, 1/2 the time...that's just my way of saying IMHO. Not I'm right, you're wrong. I'm actually not hard core about that stuff, I just thought it would be nice to offer another angle.

Self-righteous & judgemental...okay you got me, I'm a big bastard, spank me. I think if you've seen any of my other posts I'm more sarcastic than anything malicious, the riceboi thing wasn't directed at anyone directly (I actually think the people on this board are about as ricefree as can be for a japanese car club).

anyway, sorry I ruined your life with my post. I promise from now on I'll just post KEWL! whenever I feel a cynical thought percolating.
If all your wanting to do is express your views, you can go for the overly critical but don't take me seriously since I'm just joking approach, but its hardly advantagous if you want someone to actually hear what your saying...

Anyway, I gotcha, you post shock jock style... its all good, though my panties hardly need an unbunching
