Question Stress Cracks in 2002 windshield

After just 18,000 kilometers I discovered a stress fracture in my windshield. It started on the right side about 40 cm. up from the bottom and is now about a 40 cm. long.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I took the car into the dealership, and showed it to them. The service advisor checked for stone chipping, and then without even being asked, said that they would order me a new windshield. The service advisor said that they had seen this before. I have a great dealership, but I am concerned that this might be an ongoing problem.

Alot of people are having windshield problems. A few people have replaced them with PPG glass, which is supposed to be stronger. Dont know if your dealership would go for that though.

There has been many people with cracked windshields. Some from really small rocks and some from what could be explaned as extreme temp changes. There is a guy here in Tulsa that has a heated garage that said when he backed out into 15 degree weather his cracked. Didn't see it personally, so it could have some other factors. Anyway, they tried to fix my rock chips but were unsucessful. I am letting the chips crack until I think I need a new windshield then get a new one. Right now they are only 2 inches long. We will see how long that lasts.
