stupid question..

Do our cars (MP5) come with a block heater installed from factory, or is it something we have to install ourselves. i was informed that ,ost cars 95-up come standard with block heaters already. Do we fit in that catagory??

Hmmm, I thought block heaters were considered standard equipment for all vehicles in canada.

Block heaters are extra.. some dealerships in very cold places like edmonton install them without being asked (although it should be on your sales receipt as it's added after they get the car).. but in places like vancouver it's not as common.

The block heater is not standard in Canada, it's an option. It can be factory installed or a mechanic can do it for you.

Any idea what a block heater would cost (installed)? It's been bloody cold here in Ottawa lately and I'm thinking about getting one. No problems yet, but I'd bet the wear and tear on the engine is pretty harsh when it's this cold (-30C).

I contacted the Mazda Dealer in regards to this since candian tire doesnt carry a block heater for the protege5, and the quoted me a price of $45 for the block heater (which needs to be ordered) and $115 to install, but canadian tire informed me if i got the part they would install for around $60. This information is for a 2002 Protege5.

Whoah $115 for install is crazy.. I think its about $100 at my dealership for the block heater AND install.. are there any other dealerships in your area you can contact?
