i'm a member of about 5 other car/auto forums and one thing I saw REAL helpful on other forums was a dedicated FAQ/how-to like Edwins but it was constantly updated....no OT posts allowed, no discussions or debates. As a n00b just reading that I felt instantly smarter and wasn't confused by debates, discussions or opinions.

Sorry for the LATE response...

My idea for a DIY Turbo Kit is still basically going to involve parts from one of the already available kits. The suppliers are simply willing to sell JUST a turbo manifold and downpipe. These are really the only "car-specific" parts as all the other parts are universal and can be had cheaper by sourcing them out elsewhere

In defense of our vendors of FI products however, the full kits are proven and likely to be MUCH more effective and reliable

A DIY turbo kit is NOT something for the faint of heart or average shadetree mechanic, but more for seasoned veterans like Matty and myself.

The ONLY thing that makes it a decent idea is COST

DIY FI shouldn't be done by anyone that doesn't have enough time/money to rebuild their engine/tranny 3 times. If you're good though you could easily cobble together something for a little extra boost. Personally though this is why I'm such a nitrous fan. $500, 3 hours and you're done.

Also I was wondering if you know where I can purchase a BIG BRAKE upgrade kit 4 my little itty bitty 1.6L rotors 2 improve my braking plus I love the way big rotors look through nice rims.... THANKS again would reallie appreciate the help...

look on the boards for a MSP or MP3 guy selling his stock springs...they are MUCH stiffer than your stockers and use some tokico HP's to go with them..the drop on those springs is only like 3/4"...big brake kit is tough...wilwood makes one but you will pay like $1600 for it...otherwise all I can suggest is upgrading to 99-00 ES calipers and rotors...1 " bigger than stock

Hello,

Here from the protege faq the head fit:

Any ZL (1.5l) botom end parts will work with the 1.6l (ZM-DE) engine. The ZL-VE head (which has S-VT) is a direct swap to the ZM-DE engine. You will need to figure out a way to control the hydraulic controller that varies the intake cam timing. This system is similar to the one used in the 2001+ Miata BP-VE engines, so talk to the Miata guys about it the S-VT on their cars to learn more.

source:http://web2.airmail.net/theman/prot...ods_engine.html

also the piston from B6 engin found on miata 90-93 should fit

11:1 compression toda racing piston and other compagnie i forget the name make some piston for b6 with high compression

The piston from toda racing are over sise 81mm vs 78mm for stock. The ZM-DE(1.6) have more stroke than the ZL-VE(1.5) (83mm for 1.6 vs 78mm for 1.5) That meen more stroke and bore and more compression more hp.

On top of that continous variable timming for the valve.

There the information about the ZM-DE and B6 share some part

The 'Z' engines are a new family which is an evoltion of the 'B' engine. The head is entirely different with round ports and narrow valve angles but the shortblock is nearly the same as the B6.

no makes a supercharger anymore...although I've thought about starting back when the wife finishes school.

You're going to blow your motor judging by the way you're talking. You need to do some searches on aftermarket turbo kits to see some of the discussion we've already had on the topic. Basically you'lre going to need to be willing to spend a lot of money.
