sunroof doesn't work

Has anybody else had problems with their sunroofs? Mine will no longer slide. It gets stuck on its way down before it even starts to slide. The tilt still works fine though. I am going to look at it later today. Hopefully I will be able to fix it or else I will have to wait till Monday and call the dealer. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I went to try and fix it and it works fine now. However, there is some dirt in there that I am going to clean out. Is there anything else I should do? I have never had a sunroof before.

What did you do to fix it? Just clean out the built-up crap and grease it up?

Actually I didn't do anything. I just went out and tried to open it so I could see where it kept getting stuck. Instead of getting stuck it opened. I saw there was some dirt in there so I was going to clean it out next time I cleaned the car. I was going to clean it yesterday but stuff came up so its still not clean.

check for burs in the railing, cracked plastic pieces, excessive dirt (ie. bugs, hair, grime), and excessive grease and dirt packs. All that will put enough strain on the assy to bind it up.

This exact problem happend to me... ended up just being a small rock that lefta nice gouge (gah-ow-ge???) in the raliing.... opened and closed a few times.. heard a snap and my roof opened... then i looked and saw a broken little pebble... ever since then i clean it out now and then since i just about always have it open.

Just clean it out every now and then and you should be fine...

all on '02 models? my 99 has never had a problem, and I've never cleaned it out, though maybe i should...

anyone wonder why that spring-loaded pop-up bar is there in the front (if you have it)? all it seems to do is make more noise and direct airflow into the car... thinking of taking it off.

You can play around with how it would be by pressing it down while driving. At first youll think its much quiter, but at certain speeds with the windows closed, you get a low freqeuncy pressure wave action that isnt all that great on the ears. Once you let go of the popup bar and it is in the airstream again, the pressure wave goes away. I wouldnt remove it.

Yeah the sound is similar to the sound that you get if you drive with your rear windows down at 80mph. It feels like your ears want to pop and bleed. The Wind Deflector would probably be a better idea. But it doesnt look too stylish.

I've held it down in a few situations, and it seemed the noise just dropped in frequency, to where it was less intrusive, didn't notice any pressure problems. I'll check it out.
