is there a LIMIT... Part II

is there a LIMIT... Part II
Since Sir Nuke so rudely closed off the thread with a rather broad and possibly incorrect statement, I am reopening it. I also believe moderators should NOT have the power to close threads based on their opinion or whether people agree with them. A whole lot of people left the posting boards at Edmunds.com's Town Hall because the moderators started closing and/or deleting posts and threads based on whether or not they liked you or the car you were talking about. I would hate to see this happen here. Threads should only be closed when the topic has already been discussed heavily or when the thread has shown a long period of inactivity.
Is this a broad statement about all 3rd Generation Protege's? Or is it just specific to the Protege5? I know for a fact (with others who have posted the same, plus personal experience, plus Mazda training material) that the '99-'00 ES models do indeed have a speed governor. Do the others? I don't know, but there seems to be opinions on both sides.

Whether or not you want to believe it...there is NO GOVENOR on our cars....a rev limiter, yes...a govenor to limit speed? NO.

He started the thread and based on that he is allowed to close it, just as you have the right to start a new thread (which you can close any time you want to).
I don't think he closed it from an administrative perspective (IMO).

damn this is still going on hehe
I'm not sure of the 2001+ models, but the 99-00 models do have speed governors, I've hit it. I've had experience with it, yes the car could have gone further, and you wouldn't expect the speed limiter to hit in, even though its climbing really slowly, you know it could still go more
oh ye, Jesse how you finding the mr2, sorry if you already posted about it, I haven't been on as much as usual, so I might have missed the post about it

jstand6... your first post here sounds like youve been attacked in some way. Do you feel that someone has insulted you in anyway? If so, opening a new thread to whine about it is not the way to deal with it. We have a great private messageing system, along with a bunch of moderators/admins who are very active on this board and are willing to help.
If further whing/bitching/complaining occurs withint this thread, I will close the thread on the basis that it has nothing to do with speed limiters. If you wish to comtinue to disccus it, do it peacefully.

When you say older cars, what are you referring to? Anything older than 2000? If I am not mistaken, the 1st gens don't have speed limiters. Limiters are something that computer control and modern technology has brought about.

I think you will find that I am one of the EASIEST to get along with mods on this board, and I am NOT just out there closing threads to be closing them because of my opinion. This thread in fact met ALL of YOUR criteria for a thread needing to be closed.
WE as a board have a tendency to "BEAT A DEAD HORSE" from time to time.....this was one of those times. I felt it was not only my right to close it (I started it and the thread was intended to be P-5 specific), but my duty. If you disagree....feel free to do so. Sorry if you felt slighted....it was not my intent.
1. I ask the question in FEBURARY of this year....and it was specific about P-5's
2. the topis HAS been discussed at great length, the thread was three pages long....
3rd and finally..... it had been INACTIVE since FEB 14TH....in my book that is inactive for a LONG period of time, and the ONLY reason it was drug back from about a dozen pages back was one of my friends stated that he had his MP3 up to 140 after putting his turbo on.
and NOW you can continue your discussion about all the other years and models.

Cheer up, I think it must be anti-moderator week or something.
I could not find anyone saying the 2001-2002 had a governor. And all these people hitting 120+ in their Pros indicates to me there probably isn't one, or it is unrealistically high. But it seems weird that Mazda would take the governor out.
Plus I have never seen a soft governor (and I've hit a few). They are very very abrupt. It would take a lot of code and work to make a soft governor that actually throttled down. The ones I have experience with cut fuel and leave it off for a pre-determined period before reengaging it, to prevent the driver from constantly bouncing off of the limit. For some reason dropping 10-15 MPH is enough to make them not hit the damn thing.

Found out an interesting piece of information... According to Car and Driver, in their review, the Mazdaspeed Protege has a governor limiting top speed to 130mph. RPM at 130mph is 5700.
I e-mailed an inside contact at Mazda regarding top speed governors on Protege's and Protege5's. Hopefully, he'll reply tomorrow.
