Well, I got a response back from my contact at Mazda. Unfortunately, he is in Vegas for the dealer show, so he can't do any more than just speculate until he gets back to Irvine.
However, he did get to drive both versions of the Mazda6 (4-cyl and V6) and said they were absolutely awesome. He also got to sit in a production RX-8.
But, the most interesting point is that he saw the final designs of the 2004 Mazda3 sedan and hatch. He says those are amazing and share design cues from both the RX-8 and Mazda6. I can't wait to see them! I would imagine they will be showing them at auto shows soon... we're less than a year from their sales intro.

Sup, I have a 2k2 Dx protege and mines has a speed govener, limiter or whatever u wanna call that crap. I was furious when I notice this. I was speeding with a maxima and BMX down I85 south. It wouldn't go past 112 or 115 I was pressing the gass to the floor and it kept going at that speed. It didn't decrease or shut off. The car just wouldn't react anymore. So One of my future plans is to get rid of that IISH!!!!

P5 is drag limited not governor limited. When you hit the governor of a car who has one it'll start jerking and set you back(2001 civic lx, belongs to my roomate) The P5 just takes its time going up in MPH(too much time ) Fastest I've been is 123 MPH.

one thing I noticed...
If I floor the gas for long, the car will not go over 118Mph, but if I push it 75% instead, the car will reach 123Mph easy!
I always try no to floor it at high rpm on 4th and 5th, only flooring from 4,000rpm to 5,500rpm and I always touch that speed...123Mph
