clips from my letter to mazda:
In December 2002 I became the owner of the 2003 Spicy Orange mica MAZDASPEED Protege'. One of the reasons I love my car so much, is because it is a limited production vehicle. With the 2003.5 model arriving you can imagine my concern. Now that production has been increased by one thousand units, and two additional colors added to the lineup, I know longer feel as if my car is unique.
I put a $500 dollar deposit on my car, at my local dealership, and waited for 3 months past the promised delivery date, due to a five dollar part that was never mentioned. I have received no compensation. I wanted to remove the stock radio from my car. The dealership does not have the key to remove it, nor do they have any intention ordering it for me, even though I would be willing to pay for services.
I also have become aware that the each of the MAZDASPEED Protégé’s do not have the correct production numbers given to the owners. I called your customer service center, and received what I thought to be my correct production number. Only to find out later it was wrong. I still have not received my correct number.

If you really want to drive an exclusive car in an exclusive color, then get modifying & painting! You could have the only Mazdaspeed in the county in a lovely shade of lavender or perhaps even paisley!

Nope, won't ever see a Mazdaspeed P5 (unless you build it yourself ). There won't be any more P5's after 2003 I believe. Then it's time to make room for the Mazda3. Maybe we'll get a MPS version of that one day!

I feel sorry for all of those people who payed markup above and beyond MSRP just to have Mazda go and turn a knife in their back with this.

ford did this with my mustang.
in 1992, they made just over 2000 limited edition convertibles in a unique trim combination....... 75 in canada.... we did a lot of wheeling and dealing to get one....
then in 1993, they released a white one..... then a yellow one..... then finally, a handful of orange ones..... the original red ones became the least rare of the rare.....
product dilution sucks ***..... but does this really surprise anyone?
they started diluting the mp3 the instant they put the same kit on the P5.

more MSP?? oh... drool....
sorry for all you guys who paid more....
but if you think about it... MSP isn't say really like a exotic sports car that you'll want to limit production on.... I know it looks cool and good suspension and turbo and everything but hey its a very affordable race car for the price... I think mazda will just be stepping on itself if it limit the production of these to such a small number.....
