VICS Recall
#4
I got mine yester day. I don't wan them touching my car. Why just the 2003 model though? I think they all do it don't they? My wife's 2002 has.
BTW, in certain states you HAVE to do the recall or you can't register your car.
Just take off the manifold and locktite those screws.

Hofu and Hiroshima plants. There is a lot of good detail documented on msprotege; it's worth a view. My screws went in September, before the recall.
As much as I dislike dealers, I urge you to take it in.

I wonder if I can somehow lure them into fixing my EGR problem I've had forever while they're at it... By the way, I don't know where I read this but do all emission related parts have a 30,000 mile warranty on them? My car's at 27,000 and as far as I know EGR is definately emission related. I think I'm gonna take it in tomorrow, but I dunno whether I should put the stock airbox back on too, you guys think they'll give me **** for having a AEM cone filter on there?

I'm not either but it gives me a CEL saying "insufficient EGR flow". I tried cleaning out and lubing the valve and stuff but that didn't help so I think the tube that connects the exhaust mani and TB is clogged up or something. Or maybe the solenoid sensor is busted ... either way it's gonna cost me more money than I wanna spend on something that doesn't affect driveability. So you're saying I should be able to get that fixed for free then huh? Interesting ... see the only reason I never took it to the dealer before is because I have a prior-salvage title since my car was a theft recovery. Iowa law has it if the car's been paid off by the insurance for whatever reason it becomes salvage, so that's how I bought it, but it had a CEL on due to EGR. Well tomorrow then I'm gonna try to get this all taken care of. Thanks Gary (that's the name right..?)

If you check out the Protege FAQ, there may be a TSB on this. EGR problems on the FS-DE have some notoriety.

oh, and yes, it's Gary...
