Vivid Yellow MP5 - limited production color???

Vivid Yellow MP5 - limited production color???
this is a question that goes out to all MP5 owners or people that have inquired about the Vivid Yellow MP5. I purchased my Vivid Yellow MP5 in Oct 2001 here in Kansas City. I am VERY happy with my MP5 and have no complaints with the car as of yet. HOWEVER, my purchasing experience was a bit different. See, when I went to the dealership to inquire about a yellow P5 and test drive one...they didn't have one to sell yet on their lot but would be expecting one in a couple of months. My complaint is with some of the Mazda reps (salesmen and/or salesmanagers). I was informed that the Vivid Yellow MP5 was a LIMITED production color and that they are RARE. I could not negotiate the MSRP of the car, in fact they wanted to charge me a $1000 addendum on top of the MSRP because it is a YELLOW one that is a LIMITED production color. so, I bought that car. I love it. However, I was curious about just how limited of this color was produced? I asked my salesman a couple of times...he could never answer. So, I went to the Mazda USA website and found a place where you could e-mail questions to Mazda...so, I e-mailed a question asking them IF THE VIVID YELLOW MP5 WAS IN FACT A LIMITED PRODUCTION COLOR? she responded with an answer that came from the Distribution Department that in fact there was NO SET PRODUCTION COLOR FOR THE VIVID YELLOW MP5. So, I was lied to by many salesmen....because any Mazda salesman that I asked about the yellow mp5...they all told me that it was a limited production color....MY QUESTION IS?????? HAVE ANY OTHERS OUT THERE BEEN TOLD THAT THE VIVID YELLOW MP5 WAS A LIMITED PRODUCTION COLOR?

YES!
I was told the same thing about the Yellow Protege5 when I was looking at buying mine. I did a little research though and found that the yellow cars were being produced in a smaller quantity at the very beginning and were in high demand. I also heard a rumor that they were having a problem with the yellow paint sticking to bumpers when the car first came out. This could have decreased the number of yellow ones available. Otherwise, I believe the yellow is actually not a limited number and Mazda dealerships were just trying to take advantage of the limited availability for the Extreme demand.

I also bought a Vivid Yellow P5. I work for a dealership selling Mazda and I was Told That There was 300 VivYell that they would produce the first year. Now I don't know if that is true or not? I know that in our town of erie,Pa We have 2 VY P5, mine and another salesman{He has a Automatic, HaHaHa} Our Mazda Rep told me that face to face! He also told me that they had no intension on production of a supercharged or turbo powered engine. For Fuel economy and insurance reasons for the customer. Who knows if any of them know anything or if they are all s--t talkers!!!!!!

As for Vivid Yellow being a limited run colour, it's not...but what it is is a hot colour...therefore, US dealerships, who are free to charge what they want, are. If you want it, and as it's rare becuase most are pre-sold long before they're produced, you're going to pay for it...and pay for it I guess you did.
Be happy with your car, knowing that many others who decided on other colours wanted yellow but couldn't afford either the cost or the wait now envy you.

But seriously, I think they did have a lower run than the other colors, but it wasnt limited to a certain number. This may be a rumor like everything else, but ive heard that it takes longer to paint the yellow? Sounds odd, but then maybe the type of paint is different than others? They say the yellow p5s have to be painted (3) times, making the process (3) times longer than the other colors. Therefore its cheaper to make the other colors. But if that were the case, the yellow would indeed be more?
Does anyone know if they had more blue MP3s then yellows? If this is the case, then yellow might be longer to paint?
I was working a deal with a dealer near my house for about 2 weeks, and they kept giving me the run around, and said they would have to order the yellow and it would take 3 mths. They also stated that the did a dealer search, and they only had (1) yellow but it was fully loaded. I decided to goto another dealer, and they gave me a list of (6) yellows in the area. I then went to autobytel.com, and they gave me a quote for the yellow I wanted. The exact car that I bought had a sticker price of almost $1,500 over invoice at one dealership, and the autobytel dealership that I was dealing with had the car sent to them. They gave me that car for $550 over invoice. I was happy, and grabbed it. DO NOT TRUST ANY DEALER(S)!!! Thats a general rule of thumb. I wouldnt trust them with a piece of ****.

My wife wanted a yellow PR5, but our salesperson said it did not qualify for the Mazda S-Plan (our company develops the mazdausa.com website) because it was a limited production color.
Oh well.

when i bought my P5 two months ago I almost got the yellow one. My dealer sold me the car for $1 over invoice. The deal was written for a yellow one and then i changed my mind at the last minute and got red. They told me that yellow was not limited it was just a hot color and hard to keep on the lots.

well thanks to all you guys that have responded...seems some were told the same thing that I was and some were not...I am tempted to take the e-mail back to my salesman and show him what was said versus the lie that he told me, but it won't do any good...no biggie
I am extremely happy with my yellow P5 I fell in love with them when I first saw a commercial for it, then when I saw one in person...I had to have it...and ONLY in yellow...though I was tempted to take a red one because that's what they had at the time...but instead i waited 5 weeks for a yellow one and I am very happy. All in all, I love my car and have no complaints with it and hope I never will. my only thing that I question is the fuel economy...I have the 5spd and should be getting better gas mileage than I currently am...under normal driving conditions I switch gears between 3500rpm and 4000rpm...maybe I should change under that? I dont know
current mods to my car is tinted windows and ZOOM-ZOOM stickers in yellow...plus my smiley faces I am interested in switching out the headlights to something brighter like HID's...not sure which way to go... any suggestions? plus I am tempted to paint my brake calipers in yellow but dont have the work space to do all that though...especially since it's so cold out
talk to you later guys

When I was in the process of purchasing my Protege5, the salesman repeatedly asked me if I would accept any color other than VIVID YELLOW, to which I stated NO!. He then proceded to inform me that the "Yellow" was a limited color, for which from reading the forum I knew he was BULL ******* me.
I held my line, and now am the proud owner of a new 2002 Vivid Yellow, MAZDA Protege5.

I was told by my dealer that they were rare and that each dealership could only have one yellow mp5. I bought mine in August and sure enough there are 4 more sitting at the dealership and another one cruising around town.
