Walmart Tech 2000

I do all my oil changes and I am cheap. Very cheap!!! Is the Tech 2000 oil any good. You know, the stuff they have on sale for $4.00/4 litres. I am just curious. It also says its a a Base VI or something like that!

When it comes to oil....or anything in your car, it's always going to pay off to spend a few extra bucks on the name brand stuff.

Remember you get what you pay for. Go with valvoline or some oil of that same quality.

If I read the stuff at bobistheoilguy.com correctly, Tech 2000 sold in Canada (which is a different formulation than the ST oil sold in the US Walmarts) is decent for the ~4800 km intervals and holds up with any name brand dino oil in that distance.

But put in any more km's and it starts thinning quicker than the name brands. If you were going to be really cheap and also extend your oil change interval (say, up to 8000 km), I'd use another brand, like Chevron/Texaco, Penzoil or Castrol instead-- when they're on sale, the price per litre is nearly the same or cheaper as the everyday Walmart Canada price for Tech 2000-- those oils won't thin out as fast as Tech 2000 in the longer interval.

the fact that you are doing the changes yourself is saving you plenty of money....don't skimp on the fluid that is keeping your baby alive....after all....we are only talking about a few bucks over the course of a couple months right? do your CAR a favor...don't cut this corner.
