Web space for P5 Mods...

All:

Wouldn't it be cool if there would be a web site just dedicated to modifications for the P5?

Well, I can provide the space and a default URL, but if someone wants a custom URL (ie. modmyp5.com) I can work on that too!

Any ideas/comments?!

I'd like to start it off by getting all the mods and posting them appropriately on the web site and then the possible URL change.

What do you think?

What kind of thing did you have in mind? Just static pages? or something more like cardomain.com?

I just got my P5, and was thinking that something like this would be pretty cool.

It'd be good to have How To's with more pics.

If someone want to create the list or the webpage, I can put it up on our website, ProtegeNetwork.org

Just let me know.

We could also see about doing one for other generations or models.

Put link to vendors who sell the mods and so on

I can sugguest that you set it up to allow users to add their own cars...like the previously mentioned car domain. To do so would require some sort of scripting such as PHP, ASP, CGI, etc. If you want to make it static, it'll create a lot of over head for you. Maintaining and updating websites can require a major undertaking.

I'd suggest not adding another forum (didn't know if you were or not). There are already several forums for the protege and making another could make posting on em all tiresome .

well, we are not a forum. We are a Protege Owners group with chapters around the country. Yes, static is alot of work. But if the page was just going to be a list of the mods and places to get them, that is not much. But, if it is going to contain pics and people can update their own profiles, then yeah, Cardomain is a better choice.

If we did it right the first time you could use it for almost any type of car.

In my experience it's better to start small though, so maybe just p5's to start.

I totally agree. I think that the more automated it was, the better. That's where new sites usually fail. If somebody needs to put stuff up by hand, it becomes way too much to handle.

I'm a Web Developer, and I know ASP/Access or SQL Server, and PHP/mySQL fairly well. (By no means an expert though) so that shouldn't be a problem.

I also agree that we don't need another forum. There isn't much point in trying to fragment the audience.

Why the P5? Why not all Protege's?

Something like this? http://www.4g61t.com/protege/

It needs graphics, if anyone is good at that kind of stuff.

Oh yeah, feel free to create an account and submit mods.. You do that by clicking the "get published" link.
