I do not believe for the life of me that adding an intake to a car would increase mileage in ANY way. If anything it decreases mileage. People like the additional spunk the intake adds and stay on the go-pedal a little more. Also, our goverment imposes such heavy penalties and enormous bonuses to automanufacturers based on their CAFE MPG. If adding an intake to F-150 even helped them get 1mpg EVERY truck in the country would come factory with one. It's also why the "Tornado" thing is a hoax. They don't give you power or mileage. It's too cheap and easy to work. If it did work you'd see ford and everyone else including them in their cars.

I am switching over to the monsterflow filter this afternoon and I should have some good driving impressions for you guys tomorrow. This is an oiled foam filter similar to the HKS only much cheaper though "FC3Sboy". Anyone who follows my intakes threads knows I'm against oiled filters and this one is oiled. When I opened the box it looked amazing. Just barely enough oil to notice to the touch. Not over-oiled, not too dry. Also the design of the filter is great. It has a TON of surface area which is key when trying to get more air in. Also the front nose cone is open so it doesn't deflect air away from the element. Inside the filter is a inverted cone that shapes and guides the air into the intake. Veery smoothe design. Looks like a great piece. I cant wait to try it out.

Rod, sounds like the same filter that came with the Ractive SRI that I bought, looked awesome and relieved my fear of having to buy a new filter on top of the SRI.

By the way, did you try the cuts to the grill supports that was posted by "Traveler" a while back? I just found that a few days ago and it seems to be working quite nicely tho I still haven't reset my ECU.

no, I haven't cut my grill supports and I wont until I install my new intercooler!

Cutting body work isn't pheasible for me on something as minor as an intake!

I just bought the eBay CAI, like you suggested. Could you turn me onto FC3Sboy for the Monster flow filter now? I'd like to replace the filter that comes with the eBay one.

the AEM doesn't REQUIRE it but you can turn the "downpipe" over to the side to make it more of a CAI. For that you WILL have to move the coolant bottle. I know because I did it.

How have those of you with intakes (esp the ebay ones) living in Cali dealt with smog check? Do the ebay ones come with a Carbon Cert sticker? If not, do you know of any brands that do come with a legal certification other than injen (maybe cheaper)? And how brutal are those smog checkers w/ intake systems (SRI or CAI)? Mahalo

Hey ROD, I just bought the Monsterflow SRI from Chris at SPD. I will be getting the intake in the mail either today or tomorrow. I will let you all know how it goes, and how impressed I am by the setup.

Roddimus...I'm expecting my eBay CAI any day now...do you have any suggestions on how/where to move the coolant bottle and also, what do you do with the sensor that is nearest the engine...the one that is pushed into a rubberized slot on the old intake? Any suggestions/pictures would be appreciated....also, did you get your Monsterflow yet, and if so, how did it work out? I'm reserving ordering mine until I hear a few reviews of it.

yeah, I have my monsterflow...that filter is GREAT so far. Very noisy...like I like. You can really hear it sucking in big gulps of air. Sounds great. I'll have to put a lot of miles on it to see how it holds up.

I used 2 small washers on both sides of the tab at the top of the overflow jug...pressed them firmlly together and threaded a zip tie through them to make a small loop. I then slid that loop over the prong on my radiator bracket and snugged it tight. I then took 2 more ties and secured the drain line from the overflow to a hardline..I believe it's an AC line. It's not the prettiest install but it holds rock solid and I've had no problems.

If you ordered the intake I got it will have a rubber bung for the IAT sensor. I just positioned the pipe and filter so that the IAT was right near the filter instead of near the MAF. Now that I'm using the monster flow intake I had to tap a mounting hole sensor and I just reused the rubber piece that came with the intake. If you have a drill bit you should have no problems.

I noticed that some people (ie: Jeep board) bought another IAT sensor, leaving the original closer to the engine and then made it possible to switch between the two sensors, using the original IAT at lower temperatures and at start-up and then switching to the new IAT at a location away from the engine and manifold (where there is more heat...as much as 60F degrees) when the temp is hot to begin with, or after the car warms up. Very interesting concept...and good torque/horse power numbers to back up the set-up.

In your setup, are you talking about the IAT sensor being postioned in front of the MAF or behind it (in regards to the direction of air flow)?

Why add another IAT? I've run my Injen CAI through a Colorado winter and summer--minus 15 degrees to plus 102. Started the cars in an unheated (winter), heated (summer) garage and outdoors parked for hours in both seasons and never had a problem. Don't complicate the intake.

As for WHP/torque #s, were they dyno sheets or BS?

generic dyno's....honestly expect about 4-6hp on a true CAI.

eBay CAI arrived today! Now to figure out how to install it all...

Roddimus, can you tell me what the rubber wheel looking device is that has threads (that look like screw threads) on each side of the wheel is and where it goes.
