And no the 1.8T and MSP are very close in acceleration. Some mags have the MSP being faster, some have the 1.8T. Probably depends on the driver. And the 02 or 03's that have the 6speed are not quite as fast to 60 but almost the same in 1/4mile times than the 5speed version. The MSP looks better and has an independent rear supension, sot that alone makes it better.

That damn Neon isn't that far behind a North American Lancer EVO in acceleration too. A EVO will beat it, but not as much as you would think when comparing a "neon" and "evo"

 

did you mean that the mazdaspeed looks better than the jetta? id defanitely have to disagree with that. jettas are so much hotter looking than the mazdaspeeds, but thats just my opinion. and because of the aftermarket for the 1.8t engine, with little tuning, it would smoke a mazdaspeed. hopefully the aftermarket will pick up though for the mazdaspeeds.

You kind of contradicted yourself I think. I think a black MSP looks better than any A IV Jetta and a P5 looks better than any GTi or Golf A IV (stock to stock). Far to many V dubbers have been quite arrogant when it comes to their "German" cars. Most are built in either Mexico or Brazil...I think I have a biased view towards them from some of those owners but I also think they look too much like chick cars...

I think the EVO can beat the MSP in the slalom if only marginally.

 

Sport Compact Car (Oct 02) tested the MSP at 72mph through their 700ft slalom, making it the fastest production vehicle they have tested.

In Road & Track's "Get A Grip" (Jun 02), the MP3 managed 70.2mph through the slalom, compared to the Evo VII's (Euro-spec) 68.7mph. The MP3 tied with the 911 Turbo and beat out the M3, Z06, 360 Modena, and Boxster S. The only car faster was the super-light Elise. The MSP has more aggressive suspension tuning than the MP3. Combined with the LSD, and the MSP should easily best the MP3's slalom speed.

 

I disagree the Lancer EVO is AWD which will detroy the MSP. The one car that should have been put in that comparasin was the Impreza Sport (no I dont mean a WRX) it has 10 less horse than the MSP if I am correct and is AWD aswell. I was gonna buy one of them until I saw the Price tag. Its not alot of car for the money. The Protege 5 is just the biggest bang for the buck in the market.

 

Oh and I forgot The Boxer engine on the Impreza lowers the centre of Gravity so it handles alot better that the Mazda's
