Well, if he would have hit a .662 R/T you would have been toast.

R/T has nothing to do with 1/4 mile speed, you could sit at the tree for 10 minutes, and run a 10 second 1/4 mile... so if the boosted civic ran a 16.9, and he ran a 16.2, he won, and therefore, would NOT have been toast...

topher, what RPM's do you launch at? if your spinning alot i'd bring the launch down a little bit, and if you do spin off the line, feather the throttle and clutch to make it quickly go away and then get right back on it... and shift speeds are important as well, i'd practice those and make sure you can fly through the gears really quickly, i'm not sure what your driving (P5, protege, MSP) but if its just a NA 2.0L with a few mods, 16.2 isn't a terrible time, but i'm sure you can improve it, just practice, thats all it takes

be sure to put more times up when you get back to the track, and good luck...

Take it easy off the line. I noticed that on my other car when I get a 2.1 60', I'm usually .4 slower than when I get a 1.9 60'. Spinning at the line will get you a higher trap speed, but will take away from your et.

thanks for the advice...something else i picked up yesterday on my way home...DON'T SHIFT INTO 4th...yeah, that couldn't help my time either...i can run 90 in 3rd...so why am i shifting to 4th @ 80?...

when i launched...i tried to keep my rpm's around 2500...but i ended up launching at 4K...oops. i plan on going back in a couple of weeks...

i drive a p5, btw...the quickest time i've seen out of a n/a p5 was 15.4...i wish i could beat that.

my next project: finding a new motor to build...pistons, rods, cams, stand-alone, etc.

thanks for the help! i'll let you know how i do in a couple of weeks.

Are you kidding me? So your saying a lower reaction time does'nt get you to the end of the quarter mile quicker.

yup r/t has NOTHING to do with your ET or Trap speed....r/t is just r/t.

Topher, we gotta race brother!! I got me some 15" drag radials and a pair of baby spares for the rear. I look pretty stupid but I'm diping into the 15's now. Oh, also went back to stock exhaust and no more bottle....took it off. Wife got PISSED. Apparently nitrous = infadelity. Either way i'm hoping to get 15.7 or so before I add the blower to the car so I could drop down to low 14s high 13s.

yes, only in a headsup race does the R/T matter, and test and tune is bracket racing, so the civic lost anyway because he redlighted ...

and also topher, are you just dumping the clutch? sometimes if you slip it and control the throttle it is better than just ***** out dumping it, hopefully i can get the powersteering fixed on my PGT and get it back to the track this season before i sell it, best time i've posted with it so far is a 16 flat, with a stock clutch slipping like crazy (my rpm's were at 5K the whole time until the tranny caught up lol) and a frozen rear caliper, i'm hoping for mid-high 14's NA, and mid-high 13's on the bottle, but im not sure i'll spray before i sell it... this threads got me all riled up to get back to the track, i think i'm gonna go work on my car now ...

Wow, my cousin is having a hard time getting his EVO into the 13's and we have been keying on his crappy reaction times. So maybe I'll take a look at his second to third shifts.

tell him to rev to 6K and dump it and hang on for dear life. I've seen an Evo here with an exhaust and intake running high to mid 12's

Well, I ran it to a 13.7 redlining and dumping the clutch but his best has been a 14.1. Then again it's not my car so I was not worried about revving it out.
