Why do you guys suppose that there is so little interest for the 3rd gen proteges? It seems like other econoboxes in the protege class have more aftermarket support, larger forum activity and so on. So what gives?

mazda is a niche market...they aren't honda nor toyota and they dont sell as many units.

More units sold means more aftermarket support..

more aftermarket support means more modding

more modding means more people on forums looking for info

I think it had to do with marketing. And maybe a little public misconception. I still have people that ask me if I have problems with the rotary engine in my P5, lol.

yah, there's a problem, they put 4 pistons in it instead of rotors!

Where is the aftermarket support lacking? I don't see too much of a deficit. It's not as extensive as the Honda or Miata-specific aftermarket, but it's there.

Agreed. I can't even afford all the stuff I want to do to my car, so having even more options isn't much of a worry.

I think what Roddy was getting at, is you actually have to look around a bit for things sometimes, you won't just fall into a windfall of parts at every turn.

But I agree that the parts are there. In fact, some of us right here might have what you are looking for, hint, hint.

Way to be subtle there kargoboy, lol.
Sure, compared to civics we have very little aftermarket support for the 3rd gen Protege. But you should try finding aftermarket parts for a 3rd gen Prelude. Almost non-existent. Especially if you own the dual carb version.

I try not too pimp too much over here!

That's weird about the Prelude, though. What years are considered 3rd gen?
I would have thought they shared a lot of components with the Accord.

Sorry for the threadjack!

3rd gen Preludes were made from 88 thru 91, and they actually shared very little with the Accord. There's a lot of support for 4th and 5th gens. Mine was an 89 S model that I later installed the 4ws system on. That's the only car that was more fun to drive in the twisties than my P5.

You just have to look a little closer. That's the beauty.

I could keep going, but you get the point.
