Hey everyone I replaced my front pads today no problem but went to change my rear pads and couldn't get the drum off. I took the two screws holding it in out but it still wouldn't budge. Do i need to take the dust cap off and remove the nut behind it to remove the drum or are they just stuck on there? Thanks everyone.

 

You don't need to take the dust cap off. The drum is just stuck. Sometimes you can free it by tapping around the edge of the drum with a hammer. If not, use one of the screws you removed that was holding the drum on, and insert it into the other threaded hole in the drum. Screw it in to the hole until it hits the hub and pushes the drum away from it.

 

Yeah i tried all that but it wouldn't budge....I guess I will give it another go this coming weekend. I figured it couldn't be much different than the old British Leylands I used to have Oh WTF a FI section and I can't moderate?????

 

Craig, did using the screw work to back off the drums? Oh, and I believe those are called shoes for drum brakes.

 

How much of a difference did the front Pads Make??

 

Good pads and/or stainless steel lines make a surprisingly good difference in stopping ability and pedal feel/firmness.
I'm selling some brand new Porterfield R4-S front pads if you want to find out. (shameless plug, sorry)
