Anyone Install APC Strut tower Bar

Anyone Install APC Strut tower Bar on a gen 3 Pro or specifically a 2000 Protege LX with cruise control. Is it any good?

If you have cruise control it's going to be really hard getting another place to mount your cruise control. The modified bracket from the OEM strut tower bar kit doesn't mount to the strut towers, but to the OEM supporting brackets that come w/ the kit. Best bet is to get an OEM kit and save yourself the hassle.

I have a 99 LX 1.6 w/ the OEM strut brace kit and it works pretty nice, as long as you get the correct bracket spacers for the bar.

Yes, but if you have the 1.6 you'll need to pick up some thick washers to make the strut bar sit a little higher, because there's not much clearance near the throttle body. Read this thread:

Also, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT CRUISE BRACKET!!!

Unhappy Regarding the APC part

I called APC on this part today (APC #652020). I was told that:

a) They didn't know if there would be a problem with cruise control, but would "mention it to R&D".

b) The bar is not even available for shipping yet.

I too was interested in this as a possibility, since I could get it for $45 CDN, as opposed to ~$400 CDN for the factory bar from the dealer!

I did ask MazdaStuff about http://www.mazdastuff.com/product.cfm?ProductID=972 and they claimed it would NOT fit on my 1999 1.8L Protege.

Even if it does, it would cost me ~$214 CDN to get it here (cost + shipping, converted to CDN funds, taxed at 14.5%), not including any other duties or importation fees. (Shipping stuff up from the US is really a desperation move.)

So, does any other company make a strut tower brace for the 1999-2000 Proteges? If so is there any data on them? Websites? Online retailers?

The OEM brace WILL fit on the 1.8L Protege's...just ask Hank. He has a 2000 ES 1.8L w/ the strut brace.
