ARG! Bent rims!

how's this for irony? i needed new tires. had 40 sidewall tires, wanted 45 sidewall tires for extra rim "protection"

went to the shop, got 4 new tires, they had bfgoodrich g-sport tires so i thought i'd give them a shot. turns out they arent all-seasons like i asked for. but anyway, they are mounted, balanced, and got an alignment cuz i needed that too.

last nite on the way home in a mini-snow/sleet storm, i hit a massive pothole and what felt like i chipped my teeth, which thankfully didnt happen. but coulda swore the car lifted off the ground it was so hard. the steering was a noticably wobbly and i was afraid that i blew a tire or something. i pull over in a gas station to take a look and my driver side rims are bent up, you can see it from 10ft away. lots of good those 45 sidewalls tires did in the massive pothole from hell. so i have to drive the rest of the way home on wobbly suspension, today i look at it, and the rear driver side tire has some negative camber that i didnt notice last nite.

im bringing the car in for re-alignment, tire rotation, and rebalancing, all of which are free. is that going to be enough? should i bring it to the dealer and get the suspension checked out? im pretty freaked out by this and should i worry about the rims as well? the front is really huge, like 3" wide maybe, and the rear is not as noticable, but its still dented. no rash or abrasion at all, just a wide dent. i swear, i love this car, but i want to get rid of it cuz of all this pointless bad luck.

That really sucks. You should try to send the City the bill for the repairs. Might be able to get something out of them. I have heard of that working for some people, but only if someone has reported the pothole before-hand.But don't get rid of the car because of this. You would have messed up any car with that severe of a pothole.

We have wheel restoration shops out here... Ask around for repairs. Defl'y get it inspected for other damage.

It is not the 'car's fault'. Like a different car will never have anything random happen to it either..

well its either the car's bad luck, or my bad luck. and either way, i should get a '78 ford escort or something old and beat up so when this happens again i'll just blow it off.

so i take it in for a realignment and rebalancing and everything. before they can even take the wheel off, they can tell no amount of rebalancing will fix the problem. and thats "before they can take the wheel off" because the lugnut adapter is cracked. so i have to call AutoRND and see if they can overnight a new adapter. this is the 2nd adapter that has broken and been replaced. hopefully i can also get another set of lugnuts that doesnt require an adapter that breaks a sweat faster than i do when i meet new people.

i guess i'm lucky i kept the OEM wheels and tires, cuz i'll have to use those until i can order a new, or possibly 2 new wheels. until then its new lugnut adapter, 2 dented wheels, & new lugnuts. and i dont even know if there'll be any other problems.

Your car isn't black it is? I can honestly say that I've had a car that my wife and I swear was bad luck. It was a black 94 Eagle Vision TSI. first, my wife was backed into by an old lady in the grocery store parking lot. Then, after getting it fixed, I did a 360 on ice into a snow bank. Luckily I didn't hit anything. But then, my son slid into a guard rail two days later. After getting it fixed again, I traded it in for my Mazda. I miss the hp that car had, but it didn't handle anywhere near as well as my P5. And, I haven't had any more issues either.

What is luck but perspective?

Oh no! I slid on ice and hit a snowbank! Bad Luck! No - good luck - you were fine and the car was repairable and covered. You didn't hit anyone else - or worse - kill someone. Again, perspective. It is after all - just a car. God is the Force in the universe - not us or some nameless fate... So maybe 'thank God for every good and perfect gift'...

got the adapter for the lugnut. overnighted it, but it got misrouted so that took an extra day. $65 well spent. this adapter broke too. they had to remove the rest of the lugnuts with a breaker bar or whatever its called. so those lugnuts are no good. at least the car's alignment was redone, and i think they put on 2 new wiper blades out of pity or something. i already spent over $700 with them, 2 wiper blades are a drop in the bucket. the wheels that are dented aren't made any more, so i either have to find a pair that someone is selling or go with new wheels because i have 4 new summer tires that arent being used in this new weather.

so i have to figure out what i want to do with 2 good wheels and 4 new tires, but its better that i worry about these material things because it distracts me from other crap i'm goin thru. sure i know its all perspective and it could have been a lot worse, but its not helping any.

if any body has any suggestions on what to do with 2 good rims and 4 new tires, i'm all ears (or eyes). thx
