Can I lower my MP3?
Hi,
I've doen every search possible and have contacted MANY companies. All have told me the same thing. "There are no, and will never be any lowering springs available for the MP3."
The only company that I still have hopes on is Tripoint engineering. They still haven't gotten back to me yet. Anyone else out there have any info on springs for the MP3?
Thanks,
Scott

To answer your question, there are lowering springs available that will fit the MP3. Any springs available for the Protege sedan will fit and work fine on the MP3. The question should be, why would you want to screw up a perfectly good suspension by changing the springs?

hey hey hey guys and gals!!! look at the number of posts smp3000 has....SEVEN....so maybe...just MAYBE as a newbie he doesn't know this yet....give him a break....take a MOMENT to educate our new member....don't just jump and think he should KNOW this all from the start.....just maybe he is NEW to Mazda as well as the Protege....and just didn't know.

I understand that the MP3 has the same base as the protege. I only asked this question because I understnad that the MP3 has upgraded shocks. I am pretty unfamilia with the compatibility of different shocks and spring settings.
The MP3 has a GREAt suspension, but still rides pretty high. there's a good 3 inches from tire to wheel well.
Do you really think it's a bad move to lower it?
thanks,
Scott

lower is NOT ALWAYS better.... don't lower for the sake of lowering...
ok I finished my rant

Yes. The front suspension travel of the Protégé is somewhat limited, when lowered the suspension will contact the bump stops fairly often on less than perfect roads. If you must lower the car, I would suggest true coil-overs, such as the AWR set available through Mazda Motorsports. The struts were shortened, which will help maintain sufficient compression travel when the vehicle is lowered. The struts' damping rate should also be well matched to the spring rates, unlike Ground Control coil-over sleeves with stock struts. For slightly more lowering than the stock MP3, you could use Racing Beat springs, but the additional lowering it's enough to justify the $200 IMHO.
