changr to disk brakes at the rear?

i have a 99 lx and i have drum brakes in the rear and I wanted to know if there is any way to convert it to disk because i am getting rims and i do not like the way the drums look, If i could replace them w/ disks, what do i do? I just buy rotors and the brake pads and install them or it is a complicated thing? take into consideratioin that i dont know anything about suspension or brakes, hope that you reply, thanxs

can it be done? yes....seeing as how the ES had 4 wheel disc brakes....

BUT....your Lx has a four bolt pattern right? the discs are 5 bolt....you would need to convert the front in this case as well....other wise you would have different wheels on the front from the back and no way to rotate them......

and its a bit more complicated then just replacing the drums with rotors and getting the pads....

you need backing plates, the calipers to hold the pads (the calipers are expensive) and the mounting hardware for the calipers....new brake hoses.......and a few other odds and ends.

It's easier to just get the entire rear trailling arm with the disc brake for the rear. Just swap them out. Don't forget the proportioning valve. You can always go for those cheap APC disc brake simulators.

Oh my god...I cant believe I got more info on this than...THE MODERATORS....you can do the rear brake disc Conversion without switching the fronts too....the 99-00 ES 1.8L had 4W discs, and they were 4 LUG...as far as the conversion,I think all you'll need is the calipers and rotors, plus a set of pads....could be wrong on the last part but I'm pretty sure thats it...try talking to biknman,I think he converted his rears to disc brakes....

Ok ,it shows it wasnt an option,so then how did this guy at my work do it since he has rear discs and retained his 4 lugs
I see the car every day! and its definitely a 99-00 Pro

This has been posted before, but I will rehash...

You can keep your existing wheels if you install 4-lug brake rotors from a JDM Familia Sport 20 (available from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development) and 4-lug hubs from any 99-00 Protege into the disk-brake suspension uprights from an 01+ rear disk ES or P5. This procedure requires a hydraulic press, so you will probably want to use a spare set of hubs. You will also need the calipers, lines, proportioning valve and e-brake hardware from a rear disk car.

Hope this clears things up.
