do you NOW have the "clunk" in your trunk
We all know how wonderfully our cars handle....the MP3 and the MSP handle even better, with the revalved struts, the different springs and the bigger sway bars.....BUT has anyone with a standard Pro or a P-5 actually done the entire up-grade?
What I would like to know is if anyone has....and afterwards....did they end up with the imfamous "CLUNK IN THE TRUNK" after a while that you hear all the MP3 guys complaining about?
if so....why in the world would you want to do that particular up-grade?

trunk clunk
Got the trunk clunk here too. My car is completely stock in the rear. I was under the impression that it was the bushings on the sway bar. The hole created by the bushing is the same size as the bar when it should have been about a mm smaller for a good tight fit when the car is cold or warmed up. The clunking is more pronounced in my car when its cold. (try 1 degree this morning!)
Anyway, I am planning on a 19mm AWR sway bar upgrade. If it is the bushings hopefully this should clear it up. The sway bar is for fun, not for clunk.

I haven't been hearing anyone complaining about the "clunk" except the guys with MP3's.....which is why my quesition was if anyone had it that had done the suspension upgrade....
I do NOT have any clunk in either of my P-5's....but certainly don't want one either...and if going up to the bigger sway bar from the MP3/MSP suspension is going to do that for me....I will pass. its not like we have much in the way of twisties down here in the gulf coast anyway....

i can't believe that they'd use the same bushings etc. at least, it appears they have. that's rather poor of them.
umpteen mods and they don't improve the bushings.

If you check Racing Beat's website under Project MP3, they have a photo showing how their original design repositioned the swaybar bushings more towards the outside of the car.
You could probably make some brackets on your own that would do the same job.
Mazda probably didn't change anything on the Madaspeeds because it has taken over a year of bitching by MP3 owners and dozens of bushing swaps (and four part numbers for the bushings) for them to even begin to recognize that there is a design flaw with the swaybar setup.
I am wondering if Mazda took Racing Beat's original suggestions if this problem would not exist.

After living with the "clunk" for about twp weeks, I finally took everything back apart. I used this 1 inch wide, 1/4 inch thick stickyback weatherstrip foam that I get at work. I put it everywhere that metal touches metal, plastic touches plastic, or metal touches plastic, and everything in between. It is beautiful now. Better than stock. Not a single rattle, shake, clunk, or anything. I think it is even prepped enough for some bass. Anyway, everything is well now!!
