If you have cruise control, I would highly recommend the Mazda factory strut bar kit.
No third-party strut bar is designed to fit sedans with CC.
Given that you are in the USA it's a reasonable cost for you ($99-$135USD). (In Canada the kit is not available, and the parts separately are in excess of $400CDN )

The link is the Mazda factory strut bar kit. There are two parts numbers, with and without cruise control. Look real close at the picture or check dealers.mazdausa.com and go to "Accy Service Parts List", then "Protege" for the parts number.

The Mazda factory strut bar kit is the MP3 strut bar, in a kit form.
There are two brackets for the cruise control actuator, one is designed to bolt to the strut tower directly and the other is designed to bolt to the strut bar mounting plate, which itself bolts to the strut tower.
Sedans come with the "direct-to-tower" bracket, the MP3 and P5s come with the bracket that mounts to the strut bar mounting plate.
All the third party strut bars are designed to mount on top of this factory strut bar mounting plate. This is why they do not fit properly on sedans with CC.
Yes, third party bars are only designed to fit on cars that already have strut bars.
