I got my car lowered with the eibach pro kit. The guy however cut the springs so it would be lower... ( 3.7 inch drop..according to him.. it does sit pretty low!!)... anyways.. i know this is bad...but i dont know how bad.. what can happen?? I orderd new struts... but other than that... what else can happen? I really like the look and really dont want to change it.... and I NOW KNOW about coilovers... but I cant find any that will give me the 3- 4 inch drop i want... CAN ANYONE HELP!!! THANKS

Doesn't quite look like 3.7 but I will say it looks nice at that height.

I cut my coils and have had no problems... The shocks are now 13 years old and they're still holding up, even after 3 years with cut Pro-Kit springs.

How will i know when my struts go bad?? Also, when my stock rims were on there was no problems but when he put the 17's on there were problems.. everytime i turned the car, it sounded like a box of nuts and bolts sliding around in my trunk... and metal hitting each other... its only in the rear... the front is fine.. .what do you think it is??

Thanks!

I'm trying to understand what you mean by metal sounds in the trunk. Make sure right away that your spring is properly seated in the strut. One bother with cut springs is that they are shorter than they're supposed to be when there's no weight on them. You have to hold them in place as you lower the car back down. Otherwise, if they are loose or not seated right, then you can have big problems. I actually shredded a tire once because the spring wasn't seated properly and rubbed against the inside of the tire.

You'll know when your shocks are shot when it feels like you're riding a bucking stallion or a rodeo bull.... That or if your head smacks the sealing when you hit bumps.

The reason I was able to cut my springs is that when they were fully compressed under the weight of the car, there were 3 coils that were touching each other. These are known as dead coils. The dead coils can be removed without badly messing up the suspension geometry. I cut 2 coils to be sure not to mess it up too much. According to my mechanic and another guy that had done it on his car for 5 years, it was OK, so I did it and have had no problems. In your case, I'm not sure if it the same case, but if it is, you should be allright.

Good luck, I hope everything works out for the best and Welcome to the board!

Oh, and I feel I should mention that the car in my signature is photoshopped.... My car is red for now (see the avatar)...I'll be re-painting it soon though.

There, I fixed it. That's my car as is.... It's probably best that I wait 'till I paint it before posting fake pictures of it in gunmetal....

Hope you still think it's nice....

The rear suspension of the Protege uses tapered springs. Depending on the design of the springs and how they were cut, the rears may not seat properly because removing coils will effectively change the springs' seat diameter. If they're not seating properly, get it fixed NOW because they may fly off the perches while you're driving and cause you to lose control of your car!

BTW if you want this much drop, YOU NEED COILOVERS. Period. Off-the-shelf lowering springs are usually designed to give you decent ride quality, which generally means that they're too soft to adequately support the car if they're cut, and your car will repeatedly bottom out and ruin the struts. Spend the additional money and do it properly.

The guy MESSED UP your springs without your permission. I would not let that fly.

Its weird cuz i'm such a bitch!!!

I am usually the first one to flip out when things get screwed up... to the point where i'd cuss you out and you'd wish you never met me.... but I've been through hell and back with this jerk and I just want to get the rest of my things ( IF THEY EVEN EXIST!!!) and be done with him. Tomorrow is the big day!!! My bodykit and rear window wing are supposed to get put on.. but you know what..I think he is full of it. Oh yeah and supposedly he orderd another set of my rims in black and he is just giving them to me...he is supposed to give me them tomorrow also...I dont have a pic of them but you can got to www.motegiracing.com click on browse wheels and mine are the DP5.. I have the silver ones on the car right now and it looks sweet.

and about how low it is.... 3.7 inches... i think he is full of it there tooo!!! I'll just have to find a stock protege and measure it. or if anyone has a 2002 Es with stock tire and its not lowered.. can you measure it for me.

If i knew then how much the coilovers were i would have bought them first!!! I paid the same to lower my car with Eibach..if thats what they really are!! as i did for the ground controls!!!

Why are people also out to scam ? I guess its my fault for being so gulable...however you spell that work!!
