Rear Brake Problem

Hi guys, I am having problems with my rear brakes and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a 2001 lx2.0 and everytime I back up and hit the breaks there is a horrible screeching sound that comes from the rear brakes. This only happens when I apply the brakes when the car is rolling back, other than that at all other times they make no sound at all. I believe I have drums in the rear if that might help. Thanks

rear brakes

Where are you located? Is your problem happening all of the time when you back up or is it just in the mornings?

mine do the same thing i got rear drum brakes and a 2000 dx 1.6. it does it everytime i come to a stop sometimes. i dont know what it is i have replaced the drums and the shoes and still does the same thing. next thing i am going to do is change the brake fluid out and maybe if that dont work put new wheel cylinders in it.

Any noises from your braking system is generally not good. Check the linings and if they look alright then take it into the dealership, since you are probably under warranty. Since it only makes the noise in reverse I would think your drums and shoes are probably fine. I'm not sure about the LX setup but most drum brakes use reverse movement to self adjust themselves so your adjustment system might be screwed up.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, my car only screeches when it is rolling back and the brakes are applied. I am probably going to take it the dealer to get it fixed. Thanks again.

Brake Noise

Most dealers will tell you that this noise is common. 99% of the time it is a glaze build up on the rear brakes. This noise is more common on vehicle with rear drum brakes.

But with a glaze you would normally hear it always. Not just in reverse.
