Rear Pads

Going to install a set of rear pads this weekend hopefully, just throwing in pads, far too cold to do anything else outdoors. Anything I should be aware on the P5? Do the rears hinge like most fronts or is there a different procedure. I know some rear discs have a clearance adjustment that needs to be setup.

There's a short bolt with a copper washer on the back of the caliper. Unscrew it to reveal a hex nut. Unscrew this nut to back the piston in the rear calipers out. They don't just compress with a pair of pliers like the fronts.

Oh that what I needed to know, thank you very much. So most likely just remove e cables, back out the calipers, replace pads, cinch down adjustment, back it off half a turn or so and good to go then.

Then just check my clicks on hand brake. Sounds simple enough. I've worked on similar brakes then.

Second bolt from rear of the car holds a fork-shaped bracket that keeps the handbrake cable to the wheel hub. You need to undo it to pull the caliper out. Both wheels, of course.

While you're there, lube the caliper slider pins, I find that my rears are bone dry by about 20K km, while the fronts can take about 36K between lubes.

a bit late, but highly recommend to resurface the rotors. helps to bed the new pads evenly. or my landlord (total gearhead) said to take a fine-grit sandpaper and sand lightly it down to a hazy finish. this reduces the glaze from the old pads.

i sanded my rotors down when i did my brakes and thought it was sufficient, now the rotors are grooving. im going to sand the pads down a bit and see if that helps.
