Rotors: crossed-drilled, slotted or both?
#16
Okay, here's the unofficial, official explination on the rotors. From a performance standpoint, Cross drilled and slotted rotors bring together the best of both types, but don't go there all the way. The drills in the rotors bring the hot gasses around the brakes into the center of the rotor and expell them out the vents in the outside edge. The slots (or powerslots) add to the "bite" the the rotor has and digs into the pads. The result is higher dusting, but you have a LOT more stopping power. On my old discs, a 80-0 stop would be fine up until I got the first 40-50 mph bled off, then I got fade like a madman (the rotors would start to lose their stopping potential dude to excessive heat). I got the CD/S Brembos and I have stopping power for days. Only once have I felt the beggining hints of fade on them, but that was after runing a fast course with hard braking for about 15-20 minutes.
As to the cracking question. If you go with the Brembos, you'll never have to worry about cracking. We're talking about the same brakes which are standard equipment on Porsche 911s, Ferrari's and a ton of other ultra-high performance vehicles. I trust their engineering, and would not get any other brand, so just fork out the money and get the Brembos, you won't be dissapointed.
Final thoughts for you: It all depends on what you want. If you get all cross drills, then you'll have REALLY good cooling on the brakes. All slots will give you exhorborant (<< big word for the day) amounts of bite and shorter stopping distance. I got a combination of the two and I can truthfully say that the decision was well worth it from a performance point of view as well as a safety point of view.

Not to make anyone jelious but here is whats going on in my world.
There is a place in Dallas that has them and I e-mailed him about the meet up there and told him he should attend so he could get his name out. He said that he couldn't but would give me a set free if I told everyone where I got them. I had to think about it for like .000001 seconds and said sure thing. Well when we got to Dallas I tried to call but he didn't answer so I figured he was blowing smoke up my ***. When I got back I emailed him and told him that he missed out because he didn't return my call and I had 12 cars that wanted to go to his shop with me. Well he sent one back and said that he was sorry that he missed me and would ship them today! Drilled slotted!

ok guys thanks alot
that was very informative.
i had read about someone wanting drilled rotors on another forum and the guys there were like, "yeah you should get them if you don't want to stop in time"
which had me thinkin'...hmmm, i guess they're not good then.
but then, why would these really fast cars like the porsches have them fi they need the best from brakin'?
anyway i personally find they look cool but i also prefer performance over looks
and having read what you guys posted, i think i'll go for the brembo rotors.
but what about size?
my rotors are stock right now, what size are stock rotors?
does the brembo ones come with the same size or are the a bit bigger?
because I'd prefer if they're bigger
also, i have front as well as back brakes
so what the part numbers for both front and back brembo replacements if anyone know.
