16x8 RX-7 Wheels -> 2001 Protege ES

do you know what the center bore diameter is for the 16x8 rx-7 wheels? i have heard conflicting information as to whether or not they will mount up right on my 2001 protege. i have read that the center bores are the same on both cars, and i have heard that the rx-7 bore is smaller.

I'll ask Rob to ask.. I think his name is Justin? The guy in NC with a sick race-prepped Protege5. He has FD wheels, and I don't recall him saying that he needed to bore out the wheels.

.. ok I asked Rob, he's asking Justin right now, I'll let you know.

edit: The FD wheels have a "slightly smaller" bore than newer Mazdas.

well, i got the rims, and they seem to mount up fine. i am going to have to run some kind of spacer in the front, as it rubs on the strut. plenty of room in the rear.

right now, i'm thinking 3mm spacers all around, with longer wheel studs, and rolling the fenders for clearance.

What tire size are you going to run? that's going to look amazing man. You need to get them on before that thing at Watkins Glen so I can see them

just a question, aren't 16x8 tires hard to come by locally? I know for jersey that not many places stock that size thats why I went with 17x7 cause they were more available. honestly i'd order tires online anyway, but maybe it will help you.

225/45-17 shouldn't be too hard to find. I do all my tires on tirerack.com because local shops never have a decent selection or price around here. It's stock size on some cars (altimas with 17s, I think the RX-8.. might be 215 though)..

the 16x8's i have are from the 3rd generation RX-7 (FD series), not after market. advantage: LIGHT weight - i'm talking 16lbs light.

more like 225/45-16, not 17. i don't think a 17" tire will fit very well on a 16" rim. i'm looking at the Falken Ziex Ze 512's from edgeracing.com

doh.. yeah I have 17s on teh brain. 225/45-16.. hmmmm that must be the stock tire size on something.. like perhaps the fd? I've heard good things about that tire, but I'd probably go ***** out and get the RT-615 from Falken :P

as far as i can tell, stock size on the FD was 225/50-16, which i think will be JUST to big for the protege. there are actually only a few tires available in a 225/45, and i want to keep this kind of cost effective. so far, i'm at zero dollars invested, and i already have the rims! (sold my stock rims for the same price as the FD's) maybe if i can sell the other set of stock rims, i can get tires......
