New VW Jetta Wagon Will Be Built in Mexico
PUEBLA, Mexico — Volkswagen confirmed it will begin production of the next-generation Jetta station wagon at its massive assembly plant here in late 2006.
The all-new Jetta wagon, which also will be marketed in Europe as the Golf variant, will go on sale in the U.S. in early 2007, possibly as a 2008 model.
VW executives confirmed the production schedule for the new wagon in an interview with Reuters. The Puebla plant will be the sole global production source for the wagon. Its production capacity is being expanded to 2,000 vehicles a day, making it one of the largest assembly plants in North America.
Among the new engines rumored for the '08 Jetta wagon is a compact gasoline direct-injection power plant, said to employ both a supercharger and a turbocharger for high output and low fuel consumption.
What this means to you: Looking for a sexy grocery getter? You'll have to wait until VW puts its new Jetta wagon into production in Mexico in about 18 months.

this has happened before in the first gen MR2's. It's a small eaton supercharger and a small turbo with HIGH trim,..the super gives off the line punch while the tall trim on the turbo spools up to provide boost just as the supercharger backs off.
there is a twin-charged mini and miata...both are crazy but both are easily outdone b a decent single turbo set-up.
