Planning to buy an 02 or 03 Protege5...anything I should watch out for?
G' day everyone. First time posting here.
I am looking into buying a used P5....either a 2002 or 2003 model.
Is there anything I should watch out for when looking at, or test driving one? ie. leaks, noises mechanical problems etc.
How is the overall reliability of the car for those years?
Thanks in advance

I don't specifically own a P5.. but I own a 03 Pro LX, so I can at least speak on the drivetrain portion. Overall, if you have the option, I would go with a manual over the automatic. Much better performance and from what I can find on the net, not near as many issues. I have put 36k miles on my car in the last 15 months, and I have loved every mile. Very reliable and overall a great car. If I had my choice, I'd choose an 03 P5 over an 02, for some minor cosmetics, but its just personal opinion.

I hit 100 000KM a while ago on my 2002 P5, and no problems.
I can't really say that there is anything major to look out for, are you planning on getting it from a Mazda dealership? If not I would recomend taking it to one for a once over.

I've heard of no real problems on the P5's...expect the car to bit a bit on the noisy side...but that's just something that goes with the car...other than that reliability, styling, ahandling, is exceptional....as long as the car was treated well expect a great buy!
